Hi!

I won a discovereu interrailing pass and i’m planning on travelling in august. My friend, who i’m travelling with, bought a 7 day in a month interrailing card since it’s the same that i received. We are now trying to book seat reservations but it won’t work. I’m trying to book everything togheter, since we want the same things and want to sit togheter. But when i try to add a traveller i get this message. What can i do?

Since booking via Interrail is normally not advised, for several reasons: if you don't use one of your credits, then follow the advice here:

https://www.seat61.com/interrail-and-eurail-reservations.htm

If you do want to us a credit, then book your seat first, and then book your friend using a reservation method that offers a seat choice. Seat61 normally mentions it when that is the case.

DiscoverEU passes now normally have a few credits for booking reservations. Or maybe it's only some of them, I'm not sure. I'm not sure where you can see whether you have credits. I've never seen this system myself because I'm too old :)

If you don't have any credits for reservations, then just ignore Interrail.

Okay, got it!

I now tried to book seat reservations via Rail Europe (Florence- Paris, via Chiasso) but can only find the train on the Interrail website and not on Rail Europe… How does it work?

Thanks,

There is no train Florence-Paris via Chiasso. That's at least 2 trains and possibly more.

Please first make a plan with a reliable planner, such as bahn.de or sbb.ch. Rail Europe is not a good planner. Neither is the Interrail website or the DiscoverEU app.

Then check which trains need a reservation.

Then for each train check where to book the reservation for it.

Then book the reservations. Sometimes it works for all trains in one go (e.g. in Germany or Austria). Sometimes it doesn't.

Get it, thanks for the help!

Planning the Interrail has been very confusing, so sorry for all the questions.

When making a plan, do you just mean looking up which trains and so on? I’ve looked through both websites and can’t seem to “create a plan/journey” in the same way as in the Interrail app. I can only see full prices and can’t “put in” our interrail passes anywhere.

Sorry for all the confusion, just trying to book everything asap.

Exactly.

You can book reservations on both of them, for certain trains, mainly in/from/to Germany on bahn.de and within Switzerland on sbb.ch. Although within Switzerland, reservations are not needed and are generally a waste of money. The reservations page on Seat61 (see my first comment) explains how it works for each website.

If you have questions about booking specific trains, then please mention route, date and departure time for these trains.
