Emily Sophie

Hello,

is it possible in Italy and Switzerland to make seat reservations directly at the desk at the train station right before departure?
thank you :)

Hi Emily,

in general it is no problem to do like that. But keep in mind that in Italy they sell only 50% of the seats right now - so especially on weekends trains might be sold out on a short notice.

For Switzerland I suppose you want to reserve an EuroCity across the border to Italy? If your destination is only Milano, then that doesn’t pay off (11 euro only for the reservation). Better to take the Regional Express train from Lugano to Milano Centrale which is for free. Reservation on a short notice is also possible (as long as there are seats available).

@Emily Sophie  what is your destination in Switzzerland?

The solution Martin said is perfect for Lucerene or Zuerich :)
For Zermatt,Geneva,Bern,Brig you can do the same via Domodossola :)
For Chur you could catch a Regionaltrain to Tirano and then travel on the famous Bernina Route to Chur :) From Chur easy connections to Zürich,Basel :)
