Seat selection on the TGV

We reserved seats on the TGV from Munich to Paris using the Planner app. We were unable to select the seats ourselves; they were automatically assigned. Is it possible to select specific seats yourself?

It's in the “TGV Inoui Pro” app where you have seat selection for 1st class.

It's only available in French and indeed you need to do an exchange (échange), choose the same train and then go into the seat selection.

On raileurope.com, you can also book TGV seats and there you can give a seat type preference (in both classes). No seat map unfortunately.

If you’re in First Class, you can put your booking reference into the TGV Inoui app, and change the seats there. I believe you have to go through a ‘change booking’ process to do it.

If in Second Class, then no. Although you can try your luck asking at a ticket office. It would probably have to be an SNCF ticket office.

I didn’t know about the TVG Inoui Pro app. I thought it could be done via SNCF app on my last trip, but when I tried to register my Interrail reservation in the SNCF app, it said I can’t do so. I’ll ty the TV app on my next trip to France :).

Inability of choosing seats was often a nightmare for me when travelling with Interrail. You can choose a seat preference when making a reservation via happyrail.com or b-europe.com. The problem is both of those sites lacks certain train stations, therefore it can’t be used for every train connection.
