Short transfer from Switzerland to Italy

Hi, trying to do seat reservations for train from Switzerland to Florence, Italy in early July 2025. The transfer time in Switzerland is only 15 mins before train is then direct to Italy.

Not sure how passport control/immigration works here given the short turn around between trains?

Hi, 15 minutes in Switzerland is more than enough. Even 5 minutes its ok in Switzerland. There’s not passport control between this two countries. They both schengen space. Only if you are going through Domodossola, when you get out of the train and have to walk through the stairs, sometimes there is police asking for passport to check but they don’t do it to everyone and its basically just a visual inspection. nothing that would take more than 1 or 2 minutes

@Todd Bruce

Switzerland is not in the European Union, you may also have customs checks, but always in the train if you don’t change at the border station.

I suppose that these checks are sometimes a possibility to circumvent the Schengen agreements rather than to search for undeclared goods. I have already seen people stopped at the border between Italy and Switzerland, probably illegal immigrants.
