Does anyone have tips about a route that takes only regional trains to get from Madrid into the South France? Me and my friend ran out of money and want to avoid seat reservations!

Tips for a no-seat-reservations-route from Madrid to South of France
Not easy but Interrail planner shows options, but all of them will involve an overnight and 2 travel days.
Just select reservation free filter.
Do it in stages - Madrid - Barcelona (at least one change on regional trains).
Then BCN to Port-Bou
Port Bou to Marseilles
Then Marseilles to Nice has regular regional train to all main stops.
