Hello,

my travel partner and I want to travel from Sofia to Bucarest on July 20th. The Interrail App suggest going via Craiova and changing trains twice. I found a train on the CFR website which leaves from Iliyantsi station in the morning going directly to Bucarest (IC 2611/International 460), which doesn’t appear in the app.

  1. Is it possible to board that train with an Interrail ticket and is a reservation required?
  2. We are staying in the city center of Sofia and the train is supposed to leave at 7:18. Is it possible for us to reach that train in a reasonable time?

Thank you for answering!

This is one of the reasons why you should never plan anything with the Rail Planner app.

You can use train 460/462 with your pass.

bdz.bg doesn't show any timetables yet for 20/7. I would not rely on any timetable shown elsewhere.

If I check an earlier Monday (e.g. 8/6), then bdz.bg shows you need to take a train from Ilijanci (spelling varies, this is the BDZ spelling) at 6:35 to Sofia Sever, to catch train 460/462 at 7:16 there. If you leave from Sofia main station, then departure is at 7:00 to Sofia Sever.

Yes, you can use Interrail. You can always add the train manually if it doesn’t appear in the timetable.

It departs from Sofia Sever at 07:15, which is a bit closer to the city centre. Google Maps suggests you can take tram 27 to get there, but I have no direct experience.

Reservations are compulsory, and you can’t do it online. You need to do it at the station in Sofia.
