We are currently travelling from Marseille to Nice. Yet we did not have to book a reservation. Now I am wondering what I show in the train when they ask for my ticket?

You need to show your ticket, the QR code in the app.
I assume that the train doesn't have mandatory reservation as you write that you travel without reservation.
This isn't mandatory on all trains it's just advised. Best to see if a reservation is a must. be prepared you may have to move/get off the train but I've been in your situation in France and Italy and they didn't care if there were no seats i sat on the floor by the bikes.
