I'm travelling from zurich to prague on 27 March 25 but have been unable to make any reservation on any of the apps/ sites for the direct night train ( leaving zurich at 19.56 arriving prague 09.13am the next morning .

I understand that this is possibly because the seats have sold out however will I be able to just board the train on the off chance that I can find a seat or worst case sit on baggage on floor?

I have a 15 day in 2 month interrail global pass but my itinerary is tight on days so don't really want to use more days than absolutely necessary please help

This train can't be booked from 21 until 27 March, which I find a bit odd, since you can book it before and after that period. I suspect there are engineering works somewhere and the timetable isn't final yet.

If you just want a seat, then you could book Zürich to Leipzig and Leipzig to Prague on cd.cz. You'll get a seat in a carriage to Berlin and from Berlin, which means you'd need to change in Leipzig.

If my suspicion is right and reservations open after the timetable is final, then you can book a seat in the through carriage and cancel the seats you booked first (cancelling a seat is only possible is you book a seat on cd.cz).

Reservations are indeed optional, so you can always board. You just need to watch out in which part of the train, since it splits in Leipzig.

There’s couchettes available on that train. starting at €54. You can book at https://shop.oebbtickets.at/en/ticket (don’t tick ‘seat reservations only’, but add your pass where it says 1 adult)

If you want a seat only (not recommended!) you don’t need a reservation as long as you use the Eurocity (same times, and same train as the Euronight, but the seats coaches get a different train number). You can make an optional reservation, also at ÖBB.
