I’ve been on the site multiple times trying to get info on trains/prices/bookings from Zurich to Milan in July. Is it not possible to get this info 4 months in advance? Every time I put in a date and time I get the message that there are no trains.
If I’m too far in advance of the date, when should I come back to book?

You're too early. Trenitalia will publish the timetables whenever they feel like it. Reservations won't sell out such a long time in advance, and there are also reservation-free alternatives with the same travel time and an extra change in Lugano.
I'd come back in a few weeks and try again. Best websites to book (without extra booking fees) are tickets.oebb.at and www.raileurope.com. For other reservations, see:
