Trenitalia Strike 23/7-24/7

I just woke up this morning to find sitting in my inbox an email from Rail Europe informing me of a Trenitalia strike on 23/7-24/7 and, to be honest, I haven’t a clue what to do. 

We are travelling out on 23/7 from London St Pancras on the 11.31 to Paris. Catching a TGV to Lyon and on the 24th catching two Frecciarossa trains from Lyon to Milan and Milan To Rome.  We are then spending a week in Rome before returning.  Do I have to cancel the trip?    I suppose I could try and re-route to go on the TGV to Milano Porta Garibaldi but then I would still be stuck in Milan?  

Suggestions please!!

Interrailing seems difficult at first sight, but it's pretty amazing.

I just went onto the Trenitalia website.  I see the Lyon to Milan train still advertised for sale and similarly all the MIlan to Rome trains.  I assume this means that Trenitalia is not keeping up to date with the strike information?

The guaranteed trains will run, and additionally other trains may run, depending on how many staff are on strike. I don't know when the online timetable will be up to date. You could change your reservation Milan-Rome to a guaranteed train. You should be able to do that in the Trenitalia app.

As to Lyon-Milan, I don't know whether the the Frecciarossa will run. These trains are however managed by Trenitalia France. You could ask them. You could also make an extra TGV reservation as a precaution. TGV reservations are fully refundable, except for any booking fee; if you book on raileurope.com, then you can cancel yourself online until 30 minutes after departure.

My focus is getting to Rome on the 24/7 and recognise that if I have any back up plans it will cost me money. 

I moved my trip from Milan to Rome to one of the listed guaranteed journeys.   

Rather than relying on Frecciarossa to get me to Milan  have purchased tickets from Chambery to Milan as my preferred route.  However I am unclear as to whether this will run for sure.  And so I have also purchased Flixbus tickets from Chambery to Milan. 

I have been using AI a lot to help me plan what to do.  What is advised is as follows:go to the  SNCF Connect Disruption and Traffic Info Page. and monitor this regularly

(a) at 17.00 before leaving Paris for Chambery

(b) at 21.30 in Chambery once the strike has started and at

(c ) 6.45 once the train from Paris would have left the station. 

That still gives us enough time to head to the bus station to catch the 07:50 bus if finally it says the train is cancelled.   I am always wary about relying on AI, does this seem the right approach?
