Hi, we are a family of 4 traveling in July. Our plan is to start in Zurich, train to Venice, 2 days in Venice, train to Rome, 2 days in Rome, train to Salerno, 2 days in Salerno, train to Florence, 2 days in Florence, and then final train to Zurich.

Should we be getting a Eurail pass?

If we get a Eurail pass, will we have to pay anything more when we make our reservations for each routes?

If we get 1st class Eurail pass, do we then have to pay extra on the individual trains or does the pass cover the cost of the 1st class seats?

I’m so confused on what to do. Do I use Italiarail, Trainline, Omio???

You'll have to do the math yourself.

Compare prices with a pass and without a pass.

With a pass you need reservations on intercity (€3) and Frecciarossa (high-speed) trains (€13). The EC from/to Zurich is also €13, although you can also do it reservation-free with a change in Lugano. The reservations cost the same in 2nd and 1sst class.

If you can commit to certains trains, then there may be cheap regular fares. These tickets will often be non-refundable and non-changeable though. Regular prices are dynamic and will generally go up closer to the travel date.

None of them. Check regular prices on www.trenitalia.com. Pass reservations can be booked on www.raileurope.com.

Be aware that timetables for July are not all complete yet. Some trains are still missing. Timetables until 14/6 should be complete so you can compare if in doubt.

Here's a general introduction to the Eurail pass that may be useful:
