Seat booking question

Hi there, my partner and I are going to buy a Eurail pass. We are entertaining the idea of a first class global pass, but if we do second class, can we purchase first class seat reservations? Let me know if my question doesn’t make sense.

It depends on the country and operator.

Mostly no (or yes, but the extra cost is huge!).

In France, you can sometimes pay extra when making a domestic TGV reservation. In the UK you can often upgrade onboard or with Seatfrog.

Mentioned your route for specific advice.

Usually, it works out much better to buy a first class pass in the first place. The cost difference isn’t huge.

In some cases you can, in some cases you can't. It depends on the route and operator. Such a reservation would then also include an upgrade fee, apart from the reservation fee. Depending on the country/operator, you'd be better off with a 1st class pass to begin with.
