Traveling with children

Hi All

Our first post!

In September we (wife and I plus a 3 year old and 9 month old) are travelling London - Paris - Bern - Karlsruhe - Brussels - London

I've had limited train travel experience in Europe. Do trains typically have space for pushchairs or when booking reservations do I need to request specific spaces?

Ideally I would like us all sat together on the train. Again, when booking is there something I should be selecting when buying reservations?

Thanks in advance

While the rules might be that you cannot get a childrens pass without buying an adult one too, you might find that customer service can shortcut things for you and issue the child pass once you give them the details of your original booking and explain about the whole “not born yet” thing.

The net result will be the same, but it will save you having to refund your old one and buy a new one.

An advice is to get free children's passes for both children even though they are under 4 years of age. If the children have their own passes you can make seat reservations for them if you want. Otherwise you need to have the children in your lap if seats are scarce.

Thank you Anna. I have the ticket for by eldest but held off for my youngest as when I booked it, we didn't have a date of birth of name to use. I will ask if I can now get another ticket for her.

It is not possible to just get a children's pass without buying another pass at the same time. If you make an exchange of passes for one of the adult passes you can get a children's pass with the new adult pass.

@HamblinFamily Please share if Customer Support could help you. So far I have not heard that anyone could get a children's pass directly from them.
