Hi, we’re travelling to Europe in June/July this year. Trying to book a trip from Interlaken, Switzerland to Florence, Italy in early July 2025 but only 1 option coming up which is a 18hr journey.
Is it still too early to be booking this trip and can I assume there will be more options available to us in a couple of months when it’s a bit closer to the travel date?

It is too early. Look at the timetable for next week to get an idea of what the option will be.
Please note that the line between Domodossola and Milan will be closed for engineering works this summer. From Interlaken, I suggest to travel via Lucerne or Zurich - Gotthard - Chiasso - Milan.
The closed route will have buses running. Just to give you an idea of previous closures... (expect the same in July)
- RE Interlaken Ost - Spiez 11:29 - 11:48
- EC Spiez - Domodossola 12:05 - 13:12
- Bus Domodossola - Milano Centrale 13:30 - 15:50*
- Frecciarossa Milano Centrale - Florence 16:10 - 18:04
Also possible to leave Interlaken at 8am. Florence at 3pm.
Also possible to take the old Lötschberg route: Spiez - Domodossola by RE.
And also possible to go via Lucerne - Gotthard of course (though with platform works in Lugano, the 4 min connection there is not offered this summer).
Since it will be a full travel day regardless, you might want to plan a 1-2h break along the way. :)
*the buses are comfortable and there's plenty of margin in the timetable. During my journey, even with a 30 min traffic jam on the highway (car burning) we made it 5 min early.
You might want to look up the route to Milano, at least in the SBB-App it gives a lot of options for June, and I guess you have to change there anyways. From Milano to Firenze there’s a Frecciarossa approximately every half hour.
