Can I buy a 1st class supplement when using a 2nd class Global Pass?

Tchoupy63

I'll be travelling for a little over a month (33 days) from Rotterdam to Varna (Bulgaria), with many stops in between. From Budapest onwards, the app shows there are only 2nd class seats, so buying a 1st class pass doesn't seem useful. But from home to Budapest there are 1st class seats, and I'd like to use them. Is it possible to buy a 2nd class Global Pass with supplements for 1st from Rotterdam to Budapest with a stopover of 2 nights in Gyor?

Depends on the railway’s tariff. There is no such a thing as a interrail daily upgrade. But most companies allow to just buy the upgrade and use it with interrail as well. But, youll get them only for full fare (no saver fares on the upgrades). So Im super sure it will be more then one fourth of the pass. So if you really want to travel 1st class from Rotterdam to Budapest, it will be probably best to just buy the interrailpass in 1st class.

Depends. Romanian train tickets are available online: https://www.cfrcalatori.ro/en/

For example only one night train between Budapest and Bucharest (the one which starts in Vienna) is available online for passholders while all 3 have tickets on https://jegy.mav.hu/ (Hungarian comapny).

@thibcabe But when buying single tickets I have to go to a counter too, won't I?

A supplement for crossing Germany will be over 200-300€, if even possible.

Instead I'd get a shorter 1st class pass and then buy tickets after Budapest. The pass isn't good value in this area: tickets are too cheap and with the pass you need to go to a counter for reservations.
