EC19 Zurich Milan

I can’t find a way to book a seat reservation on this direct train (EC19 Zurich Milan) for 11 June 26 or any other dates that I’ve tried over the next three months. I’ve tried the Interrail site, RailEurope, obb, cd, …

The Interrail App says: No price results were found. Pass holder reservations may be sold out for this connection, but there are other ways to check for available seats—more info below our timetable.

I know I can get other non-direct trains but interested to know why this one doesn’t seem to be available.

You are not the only one with that issue, there is no site that sells that reservation online at the moment. Its a known technical problem apparently. If you really want to take that train without the additional change. raileurope.com sells the reservation for just the part with mandatory reservation. Or just change in Lugano and take the reservation free train from there to Milano (i would just recommend that as it does only take a bit longer)

Lots of recent topics with the same problem.

Mandatory Reservations are kind of the most annoying part and sometimes a pain to get for some trains. (Another reason i love travelling in Switzerland and Austria as they basicly dont have any mandatory reservations except for night trains, in addition to the fact that i speak german)

I’m travelling from Ireland to Sicily so mandatory reservations are unavoidable!

Travelling to Sicily is nice(i have visited siracus before). I can recommend stopping in Napoli. Napoli also has an amazing train museum that is worth a visit.

I have created a post about train museum a while ago (if thats something that interests you)

But yes italy and france definitly require some mandatory reservations.

Do you plan to travel mostly trough Germany or france to switzerlannd?

I did this journey last year - Dublin-Holyhead-London-Paris-Milan-Siracusa

The only change this year will be to probably add Paris-Mulhouse-Basel-Zurich-Milan rather than the direct Paris-Milan.

I won’t have time to stop in Napoli this year. I might visit the city and Pompei next year. Thanks for tip on the rail museum.

Mulhouse also an amazing rail museum. I have not visited Pompei yet (should have booked it earlier last time), but i am planning to visit this autumn. Last time i took the night train from Milano to Siracusa i was alone in my wagon by the end of the trip as mostl people got off at earlier stations. (The train even skipped a couple stations near the end of the journey to siracusa)

Unfortunately I’m only in Mulhouse for one night. Must stay longer next time to visit the museum.

I took the night train to Sicily last year and I got off in Taormina. Really enjoyed taking the train onto the ferry
