The pass is valid on both the Arlanda Express and the regional train, but you have to use a travel day.

Obviously, it’s not good use of the pass if that’s the only journey you make on the day, so you’d be better to pay cash in that case.

(Edit: but see @AnnaB ‘s advice below, that you have to pay a fee to use the pass on regional trains from Arlanda C)

Don't use the regional train. If you do, you must pay a station fee of 147 SEK per person at Arlanda C to get access to the platform where the regional, and long distance trains run.

Arlanda Express has their own stations, run on separate tracks and do not have a station fee.

The cheapest way to get from Arlanda to Stockholm, except for using the Interrail/Eurail pass on the Arlanda Express, is to take the SL bus to Märsta and then the regional train from there to Stockholm. You pay 43 SEK for the whole trip.

Where is the information about the station fee?

I used both the Arlanda Express and the regional trains with my pass, and didn’t have any problems gaining access to Arlanda C. (It’s gates, but I just showed my pass to the agent at the gateline)

@ralderton The information is on the Interrail website, but the fee is 147 SEK now. You were lucky that you didn't have to pay the fee.

Wow. I wouldn’t have thought to look there.

No fee is mentioned in Rail Planner, so I wouldn’t think to check anywhere else. @Eurail Community Moderator - I think this cost should be mentioned in Rail Planner.

Wow is right . . . https://sl.se/en/fares-and-tickets/visitor-tickets/travel-to-and-from-arlanda-airport

You can buy a regular SL regional fare for SEK190 (~€17.30) which will get you into the airport.

But if you travel on an interrail (or some sort of SL season ticket, or anything not issued with the airport as a destination) on the regional train and get out at the airport you will have to pay SEK147 (~€13.40) before they let you leave the station and enter the airport.

Or, you could take the Arlanda Express, which is . . . faster, less crowded, free with the interrail . . . then you don’t have to pay anything.

This is certainly an eye opener, and possibly one of the few routes where you will pay a premium for taking a local train over an express train (with an Interrail) anywhere in Europe.
