From Melbourne, Australia, I am travelling mid June 2023 from Roma Fiumicino Airport train station (as staying near there) to Castiglion Fiorentico (via Roma Tiburtina is the way I am advised)

Eurail website https://www.eurail.com/en/help/interested-in-eurailing/which-trains-are-included-in-the-pass states that Trenetalia Italian trains ARE included under Eurail Pass.

The Roma Fiumicino Airport rail stn to Roma Tiburtina leg of trip seems not covered and not managed by Trenetalia.

But Trenetalia operate Roma Tiburtina to Castiglion Fiorentico (per their website https://www.lefrecce.it/Channels.Website.WEB/#/search-results?handoff=true&referrer=www.trenitalia.com) so can I use my 7 day Eurail Pass investment - with no seat reservation ?

The Eurail Pass site when searching simply comes up with NO train service found Roma Tiburtina to Castiglion Fiorentico 26/6/23 - unhelpful to me.

There are plenty of direct fast regional trains from Tiburtina to Castiglione F. They are included in the pass and do not require reservations. The Eurail planner is often in error and only gets updated infrequently.

For this search I used Trenitalia with a date in May. Trenitalia tends not to release timetable info to the central database until a couple of months before departure. So if you check the Eurail planner for dates in May there are plenty of options but none yet for July.

The Italian summer timetable hasn't been published yet. Trenitalia is well... always late with that

- Roma Fiumicino Airport - Roma Termini direct Leonardo Express train only 1st pass valid (but you won't take this one)

Look at connections for a random May Monday (which is not a holiday) : 15th May will do fine.

- Roma Fiumicino - Roma Tiburtina trains every 15 min

- Roma Tiburtina - Castiglione Fiorentico few direct trains per day or IC via Chiusi-Chianciano Terme (3€) at 12:40

Pass valid and no required seat reservations do simply board any train you'd like (add it to the app before boarding)

Thank you so very much both - much appreciated as I am new to Pass even though been Italy before (I think we had fixed prebooked tickets through an agent - very different this time with 7 day Eurail Pass.)

I was beginning to think Eurail Pass has vey limited use - but Trenitalia trains were listed on website. AS suggested I ‘ll look for May Monday equivalent departures for planning

Don't worry the Eurail pass will be great !

If you need seat reservations for Italian trains (also works in other countries) use tickets.oebb.at (no booking fee). Add Eurail as a discount and select one-way tickets

- 10€ Frecciarossa high-speed

- 3€ IC train

And for optional reservations in most of Europe :

- 3€ per train (2nd class)

- FREE with 1st class pass

What great advice had no idea there was another avenue to reserve seats for Eurail Pass thank you so much ..Tony Melbourne Australia

we are flying into Rome -FCO in September. We are planning on going to Florence that same day. There is a direct train to Florence at 1353hrs but it is too close after we land.

So we would like to take the Leonardo Express to Rome termini. Can we take the Leonardo Express as part of our pass? I have the journey on our trip but I can’t book seat reservations.

What are my options for this journey?

Thanks in advance

You need to have a 1st class pass. Then you are allowed to use this train as part of your pass.

There are no seat reservations possible for the Leonardo Express. But they are mandatory for the one to Firenze.

BTW: When heading to Firenze, it's also possible to go by regional trains to Roma Tiburtina and board a high speed train to Firenze from there. Same travel time.

Yes we do have a 1st class pass

never thought of going to Tiburtina

have to check that out

thank you
