I would love to take the night riviera sleeper train from London to Penzance, Cornwall. This route is less well-known, but I would love to explore this part of England 🚅🚅 I have never taken a night train outside of Europe, I'm curious what options she will mention in her new book 😃

I would travel from Munich to Kraków via Night Train. I love the city of dragons and their magnificent old town. There Dragon festival is so unique and their food just delicious... I really hope to win 😇

We’re celebrating the release of Moonlight Express, the latest book by acclaimed travel writer and journalist Monisha Rajesh.

Monisha is the author of the former Waterstones Non-Fiction Book of the Month Around the World in 80 Trains and has inspired countless travellers to discover the world by rail. In Moonlight Express, she takes readers on an unforgettable journey aboard some of the world's most iconic sleeper trains.

From Austria's Nightjet to Finland's Santa Claus Express, Monisha explores the magic of travelling while the world sleeps. Along the way she enjoys reindeer stew on the night train to Norway, sips pisco sours aboard the Belmond Andean Explorer to the shores of Lake Titicaca and even considers a game of cricket down a carriage on Pakistan's Shalimar Express.

As night trains experience a remarkable renaissance, Moonlight Express is a celebration of slow, sustainable travel, filled with humour, adventure and unforgettable stories from the rails.

I’d pick the Caledonian Sleeper’s Highlander route from London. There’s something magical about falling asleep in the city and waking up to misty Scottish glens and lochs right outside your window.

Definitely the Santa Train from Helsinki to Rovaniemi, I’ve heard so many good things about it, and traveling through the beautiful Finnish landscape on a comfortable night train sounds like a wonderful experience.

A trip in a night train! What a fantastic idea!

I would choose to fall asleep in Stuttgart and wake up in amazing Venice.

I would give the pass to my boyfriend so he can take the nightjet from Amsterdam to Zurich, where I now live, so he can visit me and we can travel around Switzerland together!

I would travel from Amsterdam to Switzerland, so we can see our friends again

I would take the night train between Timisoara and Bucuresti. Took it many years back with my friends on one of our first trips when starting university. Preferably, we would reserve a bed this time, instead of the seat which was covered in bright, white light during the whole journey. Although, we got no sleep whatsoever and arrived at 7 in the morning in Bucuresti it gave us one of my core memories from interrailing; sleeping in the morning on our backpacks in the North Railway Station's Park!

So many possibilities :)) A pity the Paris-Venezia does not exist anymore… So, I choose the Caledonian Sleeper :))

Brussels - Berlin.

Taking the train in the evening and waking up in vegan Paradise: Berlin! Having a nice vegan breakfast on my own to start the day. And then, meeting one of my dearest friends that I met on the Camino de Santiago and only meet once every few years. He would show me the beautiful spots to also de-stimulate. So that it can stay a healthy mix of Berlins great cultural underground spots and beautiful relaxing spots with not too much stimulation.

Hard decision, between the InterCity Notte from Roma to Palermo and beautiful views of the Mediterranean, or the SJ Night Train from Stockholm to Swedish Lappland and soo many trees and maybe a moose or two? I think right now I would choose Sweden!

Midnight Express - what an apt title. Not really, express, but the next sleeper train I really want to take is the longest direct domestic route in Poland, from Przemyśl to Świnoujście. After that, I’d like to start experiencing sleeper trains in Norway, Sweden, and Finland. Ok, ok, I’m happy with any sleeper train journey! :)

I would try the new line between Brussels and Milano, opening in September! I have never been in a night train before, and traveling between those two cities would be quite a drastic change of environment. And passing through Como!

Stockholm to Narvik would be cool, going all the way north. Could also continue to Lofoten from there.

NightJet from Munich to Venice. Waking up in Venice must be an amazing experience!

I would take the Caledonian Sleeper as I have never been to Scotland and I heard only great things from friends. I would love to visit Edinburgh.

I’d choose the night train in Sweden to enjoy the magnificent landscape and see the Northern Lights or the midnight sun in summer. A childhood dream
Or, I would choose a night train to travel through Italy to Sicily or Portugal to reconnect with my ancestors and my childhood memories *.*

I’d really love to take the night train from Hamburg to Stockholm, then the train from Stockholm to Luleå, to spend Christmas there, cosy and warm in a chalet, surrounded by snow. That’s what we’d planned the year of the Covid pandemic… but it had to be cancelled. I still dream of that trip!

I would love to take the sleeper train from Stockholm to Kiruna via Boden! I spent my Erasmus+ semester in Sweden, but I only travelled in the south of Sweden and would like to explore more north!!!

I would love to try the Milan to Palermo night train, even though it sounds like a really long trip! I have just got back from my first Interrail trip 2 weeks ago in France and Italy and I loved the Italian trains and had a great experience on them. It was my first time in Italy, I stuck mainly to the north of Florence and would dearly love to see more ❤️
