Il Caledonian Sleeper per arrivare in Scozia mio vecchio sogno

I mostly travel sunny countries where I can feel the sand between my toes. So that's why I'd love to ride the Bergensbanen in Norway for a change. It connects Oslo and Bergen and is widely considered one of the most scenic train journeys in Europe.

Come let's go!

would love to take the nighttrain from vienna to rome, always see it at the train station :) rip to vienna-paris and looking forward to the future connection to belgrade!

I would love to travel on the overnight train from Milan to Sicily. What an adventure and destination I have never been to. I have had really good experiences on Italian trains previously. Just imagine the picnic I could pack in Milan.

We’re celebrating the release of Moonlight Express, the latest book by acclaimed travel writer and journalist Monisha Rajesh.

Monisha is the author of the former Waterstones Non-Fiction Book of the Month Around the World in 80 Trains and has inspired countless travellers to discover the world by rail. In Moonlight Express, she takes readers on an unforgettable journey aboard some of the world's most iconic sleeper trains.

From Austria's Nightjet to Finland's Santa Claus Express, Monisha explores the magic of travelling while the world sleeps. Along the way she enjoys reindeer stew on the night train to Norway, sips pisco sours aboard the Belmond Andean Explorer to the shores of Lake Titicaca and even considers a game of cricket down a carriage on Pakistan's Shalimar Express.

As night trains experience a remarkable renaissance, Moonlight Express is a celebration of slow, sustainable travel, filled with humour, adventure and unforgettable stories from the rails.

I would somehow arrive in Norway from the NL. There is not a direct way to do this right now, but it would be incredible to arrive in the mountains from the very flat landscape!  But it would take several connections. Maybe from Sweden…

I would love to go from Ankara to Sivas, because I want to go as far as I can with Interrail !

Crossing Swiss, with a full afternoon glued to the window passing by all the mountains & lakes, changing in Milano, falling asleep on the internotte & waking up with endles blue blue sea just before crossing the mainland of Italy to Sicily, Mmmm!

My journey would be overnight on the Norrlandståget - this would enable me to travel through the magical snowscapes of northern Sweden, arriving in Narvik. It would be 18 hours of glorious forest and mountain gazing into the Arctic Circle 🚆🐺❄…..

I have done several nighttrain rides but the one I remember the most is the one from Bucarest to Istanbul. It felt like a real adventure, 24 hours passing through 3 different countries, for a large part in day light, with most memorable the passage through Veliko Tarnovo, which looked like a fairy tale town through my couchette window - and then waking up in Istanbul, it felt magical.

Bucharest to Chișinău for me.

Beautiful scenery and a bonus middle of the night gauge change

Difficult question, because there are so many great sleeper trains that I would still like to try, but if I had to select one I would really like to try the Dacia Sleeper between Vienna and Bucharest because of the retro atmosphere and the beautiful route through Romania. Slow travel at its best.

Palermo to Milan for the train ferry and the lovely scenery, when it's not dark!

Krakow to Vilnius, magical cities and I find something really beautiful about the track change in Mockava

Belgrade to Bar route return - for the stunning scenery one way on the daylight leg and interesting conversations on the overnight leg with the characters I hope to meet while sharing a couchette.

I would love to take the Montenegro Express from Belgrade to Bar, because both of these countries are still on my bucket list, and I've heard the scenery is incredible!

That’s a tough one, either a Caledonian Sleeper trip to the Scottish Highlands, for the beauty of the landscapes along the way and on site, or the Bosphorus Express, for the sake of doing a bit of the Orient Express route.

Stockholm to Berlin. Walking down to the station after work and and catching “the train to Europe” is a good start of an adventure.

Sadly the (right wing) government have cut the funding and the SJ train will disappear in a month 😒.

I’d choose the Stuttgart to Lesce-Bled night train, travelling from urban Germany to the countryside of Slovenia

I would choose the one from Stockholm to Berlin because that’s the best way from Finland. After that the whole world is open!

I’d love to take a sleeper from Vienna to Berlin...from one German-speaking capital to another!

I would choose the one from Stockholm to Berlin. It's the best way to get via land to Central Europe from Finland, and Berlin has so much to see and do.

Has to be a night on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express - not a journey I’m likely to be able to afford otherwise!

I want to travel by night train from Milano to Palermo, scenery along the coast during day and railferry!
