I have been on my train journeys, starting with family trips on trains in India, then travelling 2500 kms to and from the University during semester breaks and now hopping on and off the well connected european rail network while working on my thesis under the faculty of transport planning. It has been a full circle moment for me. I have seen some amazing routes such as Salzburg-Innsbruck, St.Gallen-Wasserauen, Munich-Berchtesgarden and Dresden-Prague via Saxony Switzerland National Park. But the one that is always dear to me is the narrown gauge steam train from the city of Wernigerode to Brocken (the highest point in Northern Germany) which helped me to accomplish to climb Brocken from the Station of Schrieke. I have yet to use interrail pass, just like any other of my bucketlist goals which take a long time to accomplish, rescheduled sometimes after making the whole plan and sometimes even after making the first move (booking). However, I have been persistent in accomplishing some of the goals thanks to the trains (wait, did i not tell that I love trains?). Hope to get to some hopping on and off some cool trains this summer.

Choo Choo.

A trainride I did from Germany to Istanbul. A good memory to have traveled such a distance by train with friends.

The most incredible slow train ride I’ve even been on was from Ella to Kandy in Sri Lanka. The tea plantations and incredible landscape are the reason why it is such a famous trip, and worth all the fame!

A long, very slow journey from London to Istanbul and then back again by a different route.
I traveled through 13 countries (maybe 14?😃) and took 2 weeks to do it. Wonderful.
The Swiss mountain railways were a highlight, also Innsbruck in Austria, but it was all amazing.

The Bernina Express from Tirano in Italy to Chur in Switzerland was probably the highlight of my 2-month inter-railing trip (although it had a lot of tough competition!). It looks amazing in the photos and I was slightly concerned that it couldn’t match its reputation, but it was truly an enchanting experience that I’ll never forget. Basically 4-hours of solidly staring out the window at spectacular views - perfect snowy mountains, lakes in unbelievable shades of blue/green, and seriously impressive viaducts.

I’d love to revisit in every season!

My favorite journey was my first interail trip which started from Budapest, to Prague, and then Salzburg to Italy. the rest of the trip I used for travel from Belgium to Bern then to Stuttgart where I find the love of my life. this 10 days trip in 2 months was the best decision I take. I plan to explore the night train to Cinque Terre with OBB in the future.

Every train ride in Italy really, especially the one in the north where you enter Switzerland.

Aberdovey to Pwllheli. Two hours of Celtic magic,  sandy beaches , Snowdonia ,  Harlech Castle, Barmouth viaduct, Portmeirion.  Plus a steam train option on Porthmadog to Blaenau Ffestiniog.

I haven’t been on many trains through picturesque landscapes, although I would really like to try the one from Oslo to Bergen, it must be gorgeous

My favorite slow train journey was my trip through Italy. I traveled from South Germany to Milan, then to Rome, Naples, Florence, South Tyrol, and back home. It was an incredible experience with so many different impressions, cultures, and beautiful views. For me, traveling by train is always something special; itmade the whole journey very relaxed and memorable.

Oslo to Bergen

My favourite journey so far has been from Munich to Paris, but I’ll always have a soft spot for my first long train journey from London to Fort William in Scotland - such a beautiful trip on the sleeper train!

My favourite journey was from Oslo to Bergen because of the stunning scenery

I went around Europe with my 2.5yo a couple of years ago and it was amazing! I'd very much love to return to Switzerland in particular.

My favourite journey was from Zagreb to Split in February 2023. The train itself was quite adventurous as it was leaning into each curb to cut through the mountains. It felt like sitting in a rollercoaster and I enjoyed it, haha! But what really impressed me was that the route covered such diverse landscapes from snowcovered woods, an idyllic ride along the river and finished at the mediterranean coast with blue sky and sunshine. Stunning!

Mon rêve : refaire, cette fois-ci en famille et en train, le voyage de Paris au Cap Nord réalisé avec deux copains en rallye auto-photo quand j’avais 20 ans.

I’m really looking forward to the journey from Bled in Slovenia to Split in Croatia. Split marks the midway point of my trip, and I'll be staying in an awesome Villa with some of my best friends. I know the train along the coast is going to be one of the most beautiful and memorable experiences of my life.

I loved the Bernina Express and seeing the snow over the Swiss and Italian mountains. My boyfriend from Latin America saw snow for the first time on this route in 2026.

My favourite routes I have ever travelled are the Chur-Bernina railway in Switzerland, the Bergen railway in Norway, and the Montenegro-Serbia railway from Bar to Usice. And in my country of residence my favourite route is the Savonian railway from Kouvola to Pieksämäki and the favourite trains the night trains to Lapland. This year, we are going to see some places where I’ve never been: Libramont and Bouillon in Belgium, Karlovy Vary in the Czek Republic, and Swinoujscie in Poland. I’m really looking forward to the landscapes of the Ardennes, the trip from Karlovy Vary to Berlin alongst the Elbe river, which is called one of Europe’s most beautiful railways, and the beach of Swinoujscie. And one of my dreams would be to go by train all the way from Finland to A Coruña in Galicia. Once almost got the opportunity to do it but then the meeting was shifted to Zoom because the place was so far away :D

my dream is travelling to greece through Balkans until Thessaloniki and from there to Istanbul. Another path is travelling by train until Santiago de Compostela and then Lisbon. Europe always worths a slow journey, at any age! ciao!!!!
