I once took an incredible train journey from Istanbul to Munich to reach the Oktoberfest, rolling through what was the former Yugoslavia en route. I saw some of the most breathtaking scenery I’ve witnessed anywhere, from mountain passes to pastoral prairies. It was stunning, like scenes from epic landscape paintings. I’d do it again.

3 years ago I took a train from Jesenice to Nova Gorica and I have never enjoyed a train journey more. The scenery combined with the classic rail cars brought me a day I will never forget.  The line ends just on the border with Italy making for a unique station location and a city with an interesting history.

Slow journey route is Fort William to Glasgow in Scotland. Superb countryside with far reaching views!

My next journey I would like to do is in Austria to see castles and mountains.

Sometimes you don’t need to travel all the way to the alps for some nice scenery. Many lines in western Germany such as Hagen-Siegen offers interesting scenery combined with industrial history.

A train trip through Semmering.

My favourite journey for the moment is Copenhagen  to Amsterdam where my soon is studying. I have just been there for the Flower festival 💐  and this summer I will take from Copenhagen to Berlin and then to Wien and after that to Prague and back til Copenhagen for holiday ☀️

My journey from the Netherlands to Morocco was an absolute highlight. We traveled through Paris, Barcelona, and Madrid, then took the ferry across to keep the adventure going.

Even though Morocco isn't part of Interrail, we used their local high-speed trains to visit Fes, Rabat, Marrakech, and Casablanca. There's honestly nothing like watching the landscape shift from Dutch polders to the Moroccan desert from a train window.

For me it has been Sevilla to Vilnius, I took very indirect route through the Alps and Balkans and then into Poland, what a dream trip. I specially remember with a lot of coziness Geneve to Innsbruck

Oh boy this is a tough one. Whether it's a train in Middle rhein valley in Germany, Saxon Switzerland with lovely Bastei bridge, or the routes in Black Forest, everything is so nice. But a route that I can't forget is taking a train from Helsinki to Rovanoemi in Winters. Absolutely breathtaking views of snow. And another outside of Europe would be the Konkan railways in India. I would also love to experience Alps of Switzerland in the near future, and Norwegian landscape.

I've travelled this line three times now and it has been perfect throughout the seasons (summer, spring and winter): the routes through Romania. Quiet trains (in the off season at least), perfect views, nice atmosphere, a true holiday experience :)

That’s a very difficult question! I’m from Switzerland and I may be bias so I’ll comment with the next train journey I’m hoping to do with my family.
Recently the north has been calling us and after reading a kids book about a train adventure up to the Arctic circle we’d love to make our way to Stockholm and from there get the Arctic Express to Narvik in Norway, ideally around Christmas to add some extra magic ✨

It's a hard choice, but for my favourite slow travel route, I will pick one of the slowest trains I took for long distance travel: the night train from Varna to Sofia. It was very cozy despite, or because of all the noise. Old trains are the best! I slept only briefly, but like a baby.

My favourite route is through the Centovalli from Domodossola crossing the Rhone valley to Kandersteg

My favorite journey has been from Amsterdam to Berlin. Mostly because it was the start of a month long trip through Europe with friends, thoughts of the first train really bring back the exitement of it all!

A train journey to heaven. Breathtaking landscapes, crystal-clear lakes, imposing snow-capped mountains, and endless grasslands populated by yaks and wild horses. To the roof of the world, with the city of the gods, Lhasa, as the final destination. The Himalaya Express or Sky Train, from Qinghai to Tibet, is my favorite train journey.

Meine erste Radreise nach Frankreich war toll. Schön im gemütlichen Schlafwagen mit Frühstück sogar.

Favourite journeys include Toulouse to Montpellier, through the fields of sunflowers and then along the south coast of France, and Munich to Vienna, through the Austrian alps. I would love to travel through Norway by train, from Oslo to Bergen or Tromsø.

My favourite would have to be the night train from Oslo to Bodø during the summertime: travelling the length of Norway without it getting dark at night is stunning.

Last summer, connecting France to Turkey by train via Romania and returning by ferry through Greece and Italy was a magnificent journey. I hope to make a new one, maybe visit the United Kingdom or the Scandinavian countries !
I love "slow" travel so much, the trip is so important, you see and feel a lot more things !

The passage from Abisko to Narvik was breathtaking and I would recommend it to everyone to go up north by train. Although the night train from Stockholm is pretty messed up now, since you have to change trains in the really early morning in Boden. I hope this gets better soon again.

The Bergenbahn in Norway, from Oslo to Bergen. It is very long and remote traveling across norway and very beautiful.

All my train journeys so far have been ‘get there quick’ to work or to a specific destination. I would really like to take life slower now and enjoy the ride. I love the sea so a trip with coastal views would be ideal. I think Italy’s Liguria Cinque Terre, Portugal’s Linha do Douro and the French Riviera all deserve my attention. Can I do them all please??

The train from Chaiya in the south of Thailand to Bangkok was a great ride as it’s the first time we took an overnight train as a family with my 2 teen step kids, was a lovely adventure.

The train journey between Tbilisi in Georgia and Batumi on the coast was also memorable as I took it every week for work for a few months - I wish all my commutes could be that spectacular!

Living in Austria, I’ve seen surprisingly little of it - which is why a slow train journey through its landscapes is at the top of my wishlist. The alps, lakes and small villages passing by, so many things to see on a slow travel journey...
