my favourite train ride yet was from Berlin to Leveld (Norway), starting with a night train (pictured: arrival in Malmö (Sweden)). 2nd place: Berlin - Aldeburgh (UK).

The train from Lake Bled to Ljubljana was incredible, running parallel along the almost luminescent blue river!

I would love to see Skandinavia by train, as I've never been there. Taking the train there seems like the perfect way to experience the countries in a slow and comforting way!

My dream Interrail is one I’ve been planning with my boyfriend since 2021. We always imagine starting in Milan, then taking it slow through Lake Como, Venice and Verona, just enjoying every little moment. I always joke (but also secretly hope) that in La Spezia he might surprise me with a proposal…

Then we’d keep going to Bologna, Florence and Pisa, before getting completely lost in Rome and finishing in Naples. It’s not just a trip for us, it’s something we’ve been dreaming about for years, and I really hope next year is finally the year we make it happen.

I love Oslo to Bergen, the change of views are incredible as one starts on low land and soon finds oneself in snowy mountains falling slowly back to an empire of fjords. My second favorite is Munich to Rome, simply because the new OBB nightjets are luxury on tracks - and with interrail surprisingly affordable. I do hope to one day take the route to Istanbul from Budapest, crossing through multiple countries into the city that crosses continents.

If boats can count, I loved taking the train from Berlin to Marrakesch. There is a small taxi gap entering Morocco to get to Tangier train station, but its almost a seamless journey with trains of the same type on both continents. It feels such a short hop takes you worlds away, something you don’t experience by flight.

What can I say, I am a hopeless rails romantic.

Does the Lillafüred State Forest Railway line count? Otherwise the best of the best, Bernina Express. Would love to travel by train in Montenegro, from Podgorica all the way to Bijelo Polje!

Having a whole week to "lose", I loved going from France up to the North of Finland last autumn. Way North through Switzerland, Germany, Poland and the Baltic states, and way South through Sweden, Denmark and Germany again. Travelling just for the pleasure of travelling, reading books, listening music and watching landscapes slowly changing through the trains windows. The only thing in "airplane mode" on this trip was my phone !

I love to travel randomly without a clear plan and let myself surprise by getting out in small unknown places along the way. That makes sure for the best itineraries I believe:)

My favorite slow travel train route. Hmm, hard to choose. I think a ride on the Bernina or Glacier Express. Truly beautiful, through nature like that.
For a next trip, I would like to visit the Scandinavian countries. I have actually never visited them.

The last journey I loved was the one around the lake of Lugano, in Switzerland, but also the scenic mountain views of Zell am See, in Austria, covered with snow during winter, will be the most unforgettable experience of that journey.

Planning on heading to Latvia this July for an open air opera festival held in the ruins of Sigulda castle staying in a National Park. Route will be Manchester to London, board Eurostar and arriving Cologne in Day 1. After time looking around Cologne, will head to Warsaw. Again with a stopover to explore Warsaw and perhaps meet some friends. Next stop will be Vilnius. I went to Vilnius last year on a train journey from Norway to Italy and loved it. However the trip from Talinn to Lithuania passed through Latvia and didn’t stop so felt I’d missed a trick and vowed to return. After the Opera spending a few days in Riga for the Art Nouveau.

A journey through the countryside of Basilicata and Puglia (Italy), from Foggia to Potenza and then down towards Matera. You pass through unspoilt countryside where time seems to have stood still, with breathtaking views and vast stretches of wheat fields – and it’s even better to do it on a 1960s regional train! It really is a slow Interrail experience, guaranteed!

I love Europe a lot, but Switzerland always tops it for me! The first time I went Interrailing, we visited Interlaken and it blew me away. We stayed in a hostel on the edge of the lake and it’s still one of my favourite places! Standing above the clouds at the top of Mt. Rigi near Lucerne was also incredible. I haven’t been able to visit for a few years now, so would absolutely love to go back!

I’m obsessed with night trains, like truly my favorite way to travel. My dream is to do the Berlin to Copenhagen one — I’ve already been to Copenhagen by plane, but it felt too fast. This time I just want to take it slow, fall asleep on the train and wake up in a new country, then actually explore all of Denmark properly. It just hits different. 🚆✨

Would like to try the Belgrade–Bar Railway. In a world obsessed with high-speed rail, the Belgrade–Bar line is the epitome of the slow detour.

I loved traveling through Switzerland, especially from Chur to Tirano with the Bernina Express - a beautiful journey. The absolute highlight being obviously the stop at the Alp Grüm Station with a phantastic view on the alps and a glacier. I really look forward to taking this journey in every season, i’m so curious how the landscape changes!!
