I have an amazing memory of a trip with the Interrail pass around Scandinavia during summer... It is hard to pick only one route but the one going up north from Trondheim to Bodo, passing the artic polar circle is definitely something I never forget ! The landscapes, the midnight sun, the sleeper train...

When the world gets more settled, my bucket list rail trip is to ride the Trans-Siberian Railway from Moscow to Vladivostok, watching continents, cultures, and time itself unfold slowly outside your window.

We’re celebrating the release of Platform Europe, the latest book written by our longtime friend Bart Giepmans. Bart is an author, travel journalist, photographer and a passionate advocate for exploring Europe by train.

First time by rail, so it would have to be The Glacier Express, looks cool...

If you're traveling the north of Italy, I can only recommend to take the train between Pisa and Genua along the coast! On one side you can enjoy beautiful landscapes and see mountains in the distance, and on the other side the ocean is your constant companion. And since your traveling Interrail, you can just get of at one of the many stops right by the coast (some are *literally* right next to the beach), enjoy a stroll through a nice little town and a swim in the mediterranean and hop back on the train!

Top of my wishlist is Prague to Lissabon - just started learning Portuguese and would love to visit the country...

I recently took my first European slow rail trip and am already dreaming of the next. We travelled from Milan to Geneva, taking the incredible Bernina Line and Glacier Express. Along the way, the journey passed through Italian lakes, snowy Alps, and Swiss towns.

My favorite train journey has been travelling to Turkey from France. As a way in, we took the route through Austria, Romania and Bulgaria and back through Greece and Italy. We met so many different people, cultures and understood what slow travel means: taking the time to understand the distances and really getting to feel and see the changes of landscapes, architectures, behaviors. Next travel will be to explore Greece way more! We loved the country and want to get to the Islands!

I read a lot about a route from Bar to Belgrade and would love to go to this route and experience it. I have never been to Montenegro or Serbia and would love to see and learn more about this countries.

Starting from Amsterdam and passing through Heidelberg and Munich, visiting Salzburg was lovely. Watching the scenery from the train from Hallstatt to Vienna was wonderful. We opted for the overnight train from Vienna to Bucharest. Our trip was tiring but also very enjoyable. I especially hope my next destination will be Rome, as I'm very curious about its historical atmosphere.

I have seen films of the amazing journey on the Bergenbanan from Bergen to Oslo, and would really like to experience it for myself.

There are dozens of routes across Europe that come to mind… Both those I have already traveled and those I still only dream about. But if you are asking about a slow travel route, I would probably choose the route from Stary Sącz to Krynica-Zdrój, in the Poprad River valley. This line was built in the 1870s. It runs along the river, almost always right along its shore. The mountains of the Beskid Sądecki range also make this route probably the most beautiful one in Poland. And there are still plenty of trains here with windows that you can open wide! :)

I’m currently on the Cambrian line going from Pwhelli to Birmingham. It’s so beautiful! Lots of mountains, sea views, and cute lambs to watch. Definitely a new favourite!

One of my favourite train journeys is between Luxembourg and Koblenz, beautiful views next to the Moselle river. The route between Dresden and Prague is also quite scenic, next to the Elbe river through the Sächsische Schweiz National Park.

My first ever interrail trip, not knowing what lied ahead overnight from Paris to Nice on a cool summer’s night, falling asleep to the click clack of the tracks and hills rolling by.

I would join others that my favorite train route is from Belgrade to Bar, simply stunning landscape and very friendly fellow travellers.

One of my favorite slow travel experiences is the train journey along the Italian coast, from Cinque Terre to Florence.

I also need to add the Paris–London route. It isn’t visually spectacular, but the idea that you can travel between two iconic cities so quickly and smoothly by train feels great.

I love the Oslo to Bergen line, the countryside is like an alien landscape. You can see glaciers in the distance and crystal blue streams that look unreal.

Once I took the train from Budapest to Ljubljana. It was 2019, I visited the home country of my boyfriend for the first time (we’re still together), and said goodbye in the morning as I was going to visit Slovenia on my way back to the Netherlands. That made it a special and warmhearted start of that specific train journey. I had the whole day, with only one transit in Vienna. It was the last part of that ride, between Vienna and Ljubljana, that took my heart. I saw only green; the fields covered in grass, hills and mountains full of trees. The easy pace of the regional train, sitting in this old wagon, having conversations with a fellow passenger from Australia… It was a type of slowness I will forever reminisce :)

A trip from the UK to Corsica is next on my list!

Turin to Zurich, and then Zurich on to Hamburg. That view when you come out of the tunnel through the mountains in Switzerland to be surrounded by lakes is absolutely unbeatable <3
