My favourite train journey was probably during my Erasmus in Norway. We did a weekend trip to Stockholm via train. Since I love sending postcards I bought some there with stamps to go along them. Because I wrote them last minute before getting on the train back home and I was still missing an address from a friend, I had to take the last postcard with me on the train. Having to post it from the train ride, since I wouldn’t be able to do it once we were back in Norway. A lovely train conductor helped me and together we searched for a mail box during a longer train stop, both running around in the freezing cold in the dark having the times of our lives. Thanks to my friends waiting on the train, I have a video to remember this moment. Its always the unexpected moments that bring the best memories and that train journey gave me the memory of sending a postcard from the middle of nowhere in Sweden (:

I love travelling from Bolzano to Salzburg! The scenery is unreal, the mountains never fail to leave me speechless <3

One of my favourite “slow” routes was part of bernina express. The part when the train goes down from the mountians and crosses the Brusio spiral viaduct. That was one of the best views from the back doors of a last cart. But it is in my rankings very close with other bridges of that route or with a view of a Matterhorn. I also love views from a window on a train ride home from uni, here in The Czech Republic.

My favorite trip was on our first interrail, two years ago. Italy, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Czech Republic and Austria in a single trip? Amazing! ✨ Seeing my friends from some of those countries? Priceless!

The best train adventure I ever experienced was travelling from Libramont to Jesenice with an Interrail Global Pass. Together with the oldest group of our scouts (17–18 years old), we set off on our very first holiday entirely by train — and it turned out to be the perfect way to explore Europe.

What made the journey unforgettable was that the adventure didn’t start in Slovenia, but the moment we boarded the first train. We spent hours discovering different types of trains and stations across Germany, Austria, and Slovenia, each with its own character and rhythm. From wide valleys to dramatic mountain passes, the landscapes unfolding outside the window felt like a continuous film we were lucky enough to watch live :)

Travelling by train gave us the freedom to enjoy the journey as much as the destination. We laughed, explored, and shared the excitement of crossing borders together, and by the time we arrived in Jesenice, it already felt like we had collected a whole album of memories.

It was more than a trip. It was the moment we realised how easy, fun, and meaningful exploring Europe by train can be. We even connected with other passengers with their own stories!

In 1978 I travelled with two friends during our interrail trip the Kyle of Lochalsh Line from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh in Scotland. Then by CalMac boat to Mallaig. From Mallaig we travelled the West Highland Line via Fort William to Glasgow. At the station in Mallaig I bought a booklet about the Mallaig Line (as the part between Mallaig and Fort William is also called). As a highlight of the Mallaig Line the Glenfinnan Viaduct was emphasized. The viaduct was one of the first large concrete bridges worldwide and for railway interested already famous without a flying Ford Anglia chasing the Hogwarts Express. As I want to do this trip once more, this summer my wife and me will do the trip in the opposite direction. As the boat is not running any more we will go by ferry to Armadale on the Isle of Skye and then by bus to Kyle of Lochalsh. I had never travelled the Far North Line. So we will continue by train from Inverness to Thurso and then connect to Orkney by ferry.

Traveling to the Netherlands is always a pleasure! This beautiful and quiet country has a lot of railway station, almost every city has one! It’s a wonderful place to see

My favorite trip was from Tirano to Chur. It was a fantastic first time to get to know with Interrail, and its advantages. And this spectacular route inspired me to continue discovering europe's railway network.

My favourite train route is Milan-Paris! I just love seeing all the scenery change and have the train accompany me for several hours. Favourite part is certainly the passage through the alps’ forests and Modane!

I would love to travel by train all the way from berlin to Istanbul and see several small beautiful, special places/cities, which are not that much discovered by tourism as the capitals/big cities.

I'm planing a trip through France, Italy, and Switzerland in September by Interrail. It is the first time in 46 years. I was 16 when I went by Interrail the first time, now I'll be 62. I'm curious to see how travel has changed. I'm an avid train traveler in Germany, but it's been a long time since I've taken a complete trip to and through another country with several stops by train.

Trains are relaxed, just like me. They take you to new places, which I love. You always meet new people on the train; it's exciting every time. I'm really looking forward to it.

My favourite train journey is Berlin to Munich — not because of the route itself, but because it was my 2-year-old daughter's very first train ride. I still remember my own first train experience at 28, so watching her discover it for the first time was something else. Honestly, 6+ hours with a toddler is exhausting but seeing how much she enjoyed every minute of it made it all worth it. That's what made this trip so special. 🚂

Nine years ago, when I was eighteen, I got an Intra-Rail pass for the first time and travelled through northern Portugal on the Minho and Douro lines - stopping in Braga, Guimarães, Viana do Castelo and Porto. These are easily two of the most quietly breathtaking railways in all of Europe, but what made that journey truly special was the people waiting at each station: university friends I'd just met, old faces from a trip to the UK, and family who had made the long journey back from Mexico to Portugal, now suddenly only a (very long) train ride away. More than wondering through a corner of my country that I had never seen, that trip it showed me the freedom and opportunities trains can give us, plus no headaches from trying to find a parking spot.

The Belgrade Bar railway was one of my favourites, but nothing can beat waking up on the Budapest-Belgrade sleeper in northwest Romania, seeing everything covered in snow.

The next journey on my wishlist is definitely the iconic West Highland Line in Scotland crossing the Glenfinnan Viaduct. I’ve never been to the UK so that would be amazing!

Taking slow trains from Madrid to Paris is one of my highlight train journeys There are almost a complete set of terrain views ranging from near desert to the lush green hills and views of the coast in the Basque country the flat scrublands of south-west France and the vineyards, farms and fertile soils of central France - not to mention quite a few glimpses of various Chateau en-route!
