From Chur to Tirano , from Budapest to Bar.

I have enjoyed travelling from Germany to Italy via the Alps, especially in the trains that have windows in the roof and you can lay down and look at the mountains.

Crossing from Lyon to La Rochelle and from Étretat to Rouen in France. Generally speaking France is such a good place to slow travel. It’s so peaceful going through the countryside. Pure love and tanquillity 😊

I enjoyed the bernia trains, where I went on a trip from chur to tirano.

I adored the trip with Bernina Express that I found out about here on Interrail’s recommendations of scenic train routes. Me and my partner did it twice, back and forth the same day. We just sat there in awe for 4 hours from Chur, Switzerland to Tirano, Italy, where we stopped, had a pizza and a coffee (because Italy, no?), hopped back on and sat in awe again for 4 hours. Why? Mountains. The best thing in the world. 😍

I regularly take the train between Zurich and Chur, passing by two stunning lakes: Lake Zurich and the mighty Walensee surrounded by the Churfirsten mountain range. Both tourists and locals alike admire these views when taking this route - and I do so, too!

I would like to plan a train trip from Nantes to Helsinki to visit my finish friend ! I could visit along the way Berlin, Varsaw, Vilnius, Riga, Tallin and take the ferry to Helsinki 😊🏞🌿🌼🌞

There's a really beautiful train between Mariefred and Taxinge in Sweden. It's an old steam train and when you ride it it feels like you're traveling back in time which is such a magical feeling.

I’d love to take the train along Cinque Terre, because the coastal views look unreal and it feels like the perfect slow travel experience.

I really loved the train to Füssen, but it might be just sentimental, because it was not even that special compared to some other train routes I have experienced. However, Füssen was my first destination on my first journey ever with interrail and the landscape in the sunset just looked so beautiful. It was a good start of my first interrail trip.

I’m looking forward to taking the train from Fort William to Mallaig in Scotland via the Glenfinnan Viaduct, because of the beautiful landscape and its connection to one of my favourite movies!:)

In December 2018, I travelled through the Nordic countries with an Interrail ticket. My favourite route on this trip was from Hamburg to Copenhagen. I had never experienced, before or after, a ship transporting a train, and then the train ride continues.

So far, the best route was travelling from Oslo to Bergen through a snow-covered mountain landscape. I’ll always remember this trip.

I am torn between the most beautiful slow train routes in my own country which are from Settle to Carlisle or the West Highland and the Highland Main Line in Scotland which pass through the beautiful Cairngorms and lovely lochs.

In Europe, the slowest train journey I have ever had, but it was well worth it, was the very slow train from Skopje to Prilep - very slow indeed.

I love the West Highland Line in Scotland. You leave the suburbs of Glasgow behind, travel past lakes and forests, moors and mountains, cross the Glenfinnan Viaduct (made famous by the Harry Potter films) and arrive at the west coast of Scotland in Mallaig. It’s such a spectacular journey through the dramatic scenery of Scotland.

My favorite route was from Villefranche-de-Conflent to Latour-de-Carol in France (not far from the Andorran border). The route winds through the Pyrenees and enchants travelers with its beautiful scenery, stunning bridges, and a charming little train (petit train jaune) that travels at about 40 km/h, giving you plenty of time to soak in the moment and fully enjoy the breathtaking landscape

My favorite slow travel route is definitely the Bernina Express in Switzerland! 🇨🇭🏔️

There is nothing quite like sitting in those panoramic cars and watching the landscape transform from massive glaciers and turquoise mountain lakes to Mediterranean-style palm trees in Tirano. It’s the ultimate slow travel experience. You literally feel the pace of life slowing down as the train winds through the UNESCO World Heritage loops

My favourite trainride was from Trieste Italy to Ljubljana in Slovenia. I don’t remember if it was a slow ride, but the views were amazing. I really liked going past lake Bled and Bohinj, because we were going to visit there one of the next days. Slovenia is such a beautiful country, with mountains, valleys and beautiful lakes. I would love to go to scandinavia to experience the rails there or visit the baltic countries!

From Mainz to Koblenz, in Germany. If you take high speed, you see less of the castle but very lovely views on the river. If you take middle speed, you can admire the Loreley and the the many beautiful old castles and houses on the green hills along the river.

Enjoy !

A train journey next on my wishlist is any train route from the south of England all the way to the north of Scotland. I have a long distance relationship and it would be a blessing to discover more of the UK together with my boyfriend and get to know his home a bit more and fall in love all over again, but this time with places and beautiful views instead of a person ;)

Four years ago, my dream of visiting the Lake District in England came true. An amazing train took us almost to the heart of the national park, the town of Windermere. And the dream? Alpine trains through Switzerland, Italy to Austria…
