Ooh I would absolutely love to take the train through the beautiful Scottish Highlands from Dunrobin Castle to Thurso! Must be so peaceful and beautiful...

Or the train route in the black forest from Weizen to Blumberg, which seems to be so beautiful as well :)

Love the combination of the vast nature and the  history of the areas of both routes!

If I had to choose one specific route, a great experience for me was the trip on the local line in Sicily between the cities of Modica - Ragusa - Gela. This line offers views of ancient towns and the wild Sicilian landscape.

My dream train route is the Bernina Express! I’d love to have a ride during winter and enjoy the breathtaking glaciers and frozen scenery!

Hi everyone!

My favourite slow routes are probably all night trains. I like the new vibes of the European Sleeper from Deventer to Prague, the luxury of the ČD sleeper train from Prague to Warsaw, and the chaotic authenticity of the Austrian sleeper from Vienna to Bucharest. An honorary mention would be the Belle Epoque train in Switzerland, being a great combination of a beautiful train and amazing landscape views.

Journeys that are still on my to do list er the ‘extended’ Vienna-Bucharest trip continuing to Sofia and then Istanbul, and the train from Budapest to Belgrade, and then on with the slow train to Bar. For the first route I would be curious to hop on a Turkish train, visit Turkey for the first time, and maybe even meet an online friend from there. And for the second route I heard it is supposed to be absolutely beautiful, so that would be a rewarding time looking out of the window.

Hello! One of my favourite routes and the one I have done the most is from England to Sweden :) I do not like flying because of the environmental impact (also scared of it at this point) so I go on trains when travelling to see friends and visit new places. The views in all weather are pretty and interesting and change quite a lot during the journey especially in the winter! I like this route because there are not a lot of changes as having an interrail pass means the Eurostar and the night train have cheaper reservations, then the trains in between you can just hop on so there is lots of flexibility! It is very exciting to travel through different countries and hear as well as try to learn the various different languages as well. It takes a little over 24 hours which honestly is pretty chill and I recommend it a lot!

My favourite train route was from Vienna to Palermo! It was a really long journey during which I had the opportunity to admire incredible landscapes, from the hills of the Austrian countryside to the amazing Italian coastal scenery.

I loved to travel with the regional trains at the Westcoast of Italy. We found so many "undiscovered" spots without tourists and the view was breathtaking during our train rides.

My favorite slow travel route was along the coast of the Ligurian Riviera. I visited small villages, ate delicious Italian food, and discovered amazing swimming spots. I slept in a tent, so I was truly able to experience the Italian climate. It was a very interesting and enjoyable trip, and I am reaaaaallly looking forward to my next journey.

Next om my wishlist is the journey from Nova Gorica to Jesenice, Slovenia. I've never been to Slovenia but I'd love to hike there and see lake Bled. From what I understand this train journey takes you through some beautiful landscapes as well.

My favourite train route is the scenic ride between St-Moritz and Zermatt! I’d love to.

I would love to take the Bernina express through the alpes of Switzerland. My sister did it during one of her interrail trips and I’ve wanted to do it since then! I would also really love to go to the Balkan side of Europe; Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro since I’ve never been there. A mix of both would be amazing for my first summer of interrail!

I would love to take the Bernina Express through the Swiss alpes! My sister did it during one of her interrail trips and she told me that it was an incredible experience. Not only huge windows with breathtaking views and landscapes but also a very comfortable train with nice staff. I would also love to visit Balkan; Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro because I’ve never been there and I’ve heard so much about it. Seems like a bit less tourists and beautiful city’s and landscape. A mix of both would be amazing for my first interrail summer!

Great and difficult question, because every train route has its charme. From the three routes I did, the one from Poland to Estonia was the most interesting one! However, my favourite route is probably from Germany to Scotland - because of the Highlands.

If I win the free Interrail Global Pass for 7 travel days I would finally go to discover more of central Europe: Like Denmark, The Netherlands and Belgium!

My favorite slow train route is the night train from Torino to Lecce in Italie ! It’s so magical to use the night train network in Europe and to fall asleep in a beautiful city and wake up in an other wonderful place :)

I like to travel slowly near my hometown in Germany and explore the surrounding area. It allows me to see my own home through a tourist’s eyes and to appreciate how beautiful it really is. One trip I would love to take is from Munich through Switzerland, continuing down to the Mediterranean coast, then via Montpellier and finally to Barcelona.

Last year I travelled with three friends from Vienna to Istanbul. We took multiple trains trough Rumania and Bulgaria until we arrived in Istanbul. It was fascinating to see the landscape change and to feel how long it actually took us to get there.

London to Switzerland! A couple of years ago, I took my first ever trip on the Eurostar to Paris, then took the train from Paris all the way to Lausanne for a hiking holiday. Taking the train heightened that sense of adventure and I loved watching the countryside roll by - it really made the journey to my destination feel part of the holiday, not just a means of getting there! Would love to experience that feeling again.

My favourite slow ride is on the Hausruckbahn in Upper Austria between Schärding and Attnang-Puchheim. I like the old train cars, the beautiful landscape with the view from Bavaria in the north to the Salzkammergut mountains in the south.

In 2021, a friend and I went Interrailing together. On the way from Porto to Madrid, there was a train that consisted of just a single carriage. There were only five of us on it the whole time—besides us, there was a group of three guys, also carrying big backpacks. The train traveled for hours through a yellow, barren landscape on a single track. Along the way, we even got to experience “time travel.”

Liked Norway most, esp. the train ride from Oslo to Bergen.

My next dream trip is to leave from Paris and travel across England all the way to Inverness in Scotland. The Highlands are my favorite landscapes. If the weather could be nice too, that would be great… but maybe that’s asking too much.😇

I was really happy with the night train I took from Budapest to Zurich years ago. I had nice seat neighbours where we had nice chats. Was comfortable. Also, it was amazing to see the Hungarian fields plains just before the sun set, then wake up while pasing through the Austrian and Swiss Alps, and seeing the green pastures of those mountains. Also, saw Liechtenstein for a short time.

Congratulations on the book; I enjoy following Bart’s train and travel reports so would love to read this. A slow and long travel day I’m excited about for this summer entails departing from Wladyslawowo with a Polregio just before 5am so I can ride the Bory Tucholskie from Gdynia and disembark in Chojnice to explore there for a few hours before heading off on an Arriva to Bydgoszcz and onwards with a Polregio to arrive at my final destination of Toruń. Lots of nature to ride through and many varied trains and lines to experience - not much more I could wish for on an Interrail travel day and all in keeping with my penchant for designing challenging routes (snacks will be prepared the night before as none of these trains has any catering! 😅). Safe travels to all ☺️

It might be a classic slow travel route, but I really enjoyed Stavanger - Oslo - Trondheim. I did it in early May and would definitely recommend it to everyone. You’re driving through landscapes ranging from hills covered in the last snow, to flower-covered fields and the occasional waterfall or wild river view. I didn’t even start the book I brought along for the trip :)
