Will be traveling in Vienna and would like to go into Bratislava, Slovakia and Hungary (anywhere across the border), mainly jjust for the aspect of saying I’ve been there, rather than doing lots of touristy stuff. Just a quick trip in to each country and then back to Vienna in the same day (or even a few hours depending on how long this takes). Would it be best to use a full day of my Eurail pass just for this (otherwise I am using local Vienna pass only since I’m just in Vienna), or are there cheap routes from Vienna into these countries with a quick trip back? Any suggestions on routes or what is cheapest? Would prefer to save a day of the Eurail pass and just use local passes if possible. Thanks for any ideas.

Seat61 has details of the trains between Vienna & Bratislava. There are two routes.

Better still, stump up the extra to take the hydrofoil along the Danube

For Hungary, Györ might fit the bill. Perfectly pleasant city to spend a few hours in. Just over an hour away
As is Brno in Czechia - slightly further
