Pass and seat reservations

Hi everyone, excuse me if I have got this wrong, but looking for some help. I have paid €411.00 for a 5 day global pass, I have had to pay almost 50euro for the eurostar and seat reservations on my journeys are somestimes 15/20euro. Does this sound right? It just seems expensive.

Also is it normal to not be able to book trains yet in France and Spain for the first week of June?

Thanks so much community!

Some reservations are expensive. To save a few euros, avoid booking reservations via Interrail. Instead, use this page as a guide:

https://www.seat61.com/interrail-and-eurail-reservations.htm

For shorter journeys in France and Italy, also check whether you can do them with regional trains.

French reservations should be available until 4/7, except when timetables aren't final yet because of engineering works. If you have problems with a reservation, please mention route, date and departure time.

The most expensive 5-day pass is the 1st class adult pass for €404.

The most expensive Eurostar reservation is a 1st class reservation London-Rotterdam/Amsterdam for €43.

Yes the reservation fees on Eurostar are exepensive, normally about 30-40€ : https://www.interrail.eu/fr/book-reservations/reservation-fees/international-train-reservation-fees

In France and Spain most if not all long-distance trains have mandatory reservation, and the alternatives usually take over twice the time. You can compare with the normal fare, usually it’s a lot than 20€ though.

For me it’s now possible to book for France, maybe it was released recently (usually about 3 months before).

When you purchase the Interrail pass, it also clearly states “seat reservations not included” You can find approximative reservation prices on the IR site and on other sites (such as raileurope) you can see actual prices even before you have a pass.

So even though it might not seem right (and I agree that it kind of makes interrailing in France, Spain or with Eurostar unpleasant), it is something you need to research before travelling.
