Italy night train reservation

Hello:) I looked for quite a while here for an answer of my question, but was not able to find a solution.

I would like to book a reservation for the night train INI1960 from Siracusa (21:45) to Napoli (7:22). I would like to book two reservations for a private cabin. On interrail.eu it is just possible to book a 4 person cabin. On italiarail.com  I can select it, but due to the known issue with this website I can not book it (The problem is, that they want an 8 digit Passholder number which is not available on the mobile app). On trenitalia I could also book a 2 person private cabin, but of course the whole ticket, I am not able to just book the reservation.
Which option do I have to buy just the reservation for a private 2 person cabin for this train?
I was thinking a long time to purchase the Interail ticket. It is my first time, and unfortunately this train would be the first travel of my interailtrip, as I am starting in Siracusa, and for the reason that it is so expensive on the Trenitalia website, I decided to book the interailticket, just to recognize, that I can not buy this reservation.

For that reason, help is highly appreciated:)

There are severail ways to make reservations, please read more below. 

 

Here is some useful information from the experienced travellers in the Community regarding both planning, reservations and activation of pass and travel days. 

 Planning

The rail planner is normally not up to date, as it only is updated once a month, so to be sure of the time table you better check the timetable and availability on the websites of the national railways. The bigger national railways, like DB (Germany) SBB (Switzerland) and ÖBB (Austria) cover several countries. 

 Reservations 

The advice from the experienced travellers in the community is to use other ways to make reservations than the Interrail/Eurail website.  You can look at the guide in the link:

If you, after having looked at the guide, have questions about how to make specific reservation, please give your travel details (departure date, time and route) preferably in a new topic, and you will get advice.

Please note that Interrail/Eurail charges an extra fee of 2 EUR per person and train in addition to the fee for the seat reservation.

 Activation of pass

During the activation process, when you choose the start day of the validity of the pass, the first day of the validity period is automatically made a travel day, even if you don't enter a journey, the advice is therefore not to activate the pass before the first travel day as you only can deactivate the pass before 00.00 on the day the validity starts. If your travel plans change in the last moment you will loose travel days if you have activated the pass in advance.

It can be wise to make a test and activate the pass with a start date well in the future and then deactivate the pass immediately, just to see that everything works.

 Activation of travel day

The advice from the experienced travellers in the community is also never to activate a travel day, that is connect a journey to your pass, until just before boarding the train, otherwise you might loose a travel day if your travel plans change in a late stage  You can't delete a travel day in the past. A travel day can only be deleted until 23.59 CET the day before the travel day.

Nighttrain of Trenitalia can be booked for pass users on interrail.eu or at international ticket desk of f.e. Deutsche Bahn. Sometimes the saver fare "Super Economy" cost less than a interrail reservation.

The pass Cover number generator was useful, but now is my question: is italiarail.com a reliable website for making a reservation in a night train, because for my request it would now be possible to do it with the Pass Cover Number. I was also at the Deutsche Bahn Office but they can't do a reservation for me, same with Trenitalia via phone. But I read that there were several problems withreservations done by italiarail.com in the past? Which leaves me now with no options left. Or what else do you suggest?

I think italiarail.com does not sell anymore reservations for pass users. Can you send a link of the website where you are trying to book?

Deutsche Bahn should be able to book, when are you traveling? Is it later than september?

This is the link: It worked on my mobile phone like that. So what do you think it is reliable to book, I mean it is the recommended website by Interail.eu for booking?

Sorry forget to answer second part. The trip is in August, and I was in the deutsche Bahn office and she was not able to book it for me...

I know that long ago most people booked via italiarail the seat reservations. An it should be fine.

Just try. But there was a recent report that It-rail-which in fact is simply an IT/US guy living somewhere near Bos/Mass, has stopped doing RES only as the system has been changed again and he could not make any money on it. It would thus be nice to report back what you found out.

On tripadvisor.com are many more reports about this-this is a general touristy forum

Mobile pass holders can generate their own PCN's using this tool: Book Reservations (interrail.eu). Reservations for Italian trains are possible via ItaliaRail. 

 

  • Open the app.italiarail.com website and click on 'Add tickets'. Fill in your station of departure and arrival. Don't forget to select 1st or 2nd class under 'Eurail / InterRail Pass' in the bottom left of the block, otherwise you'll only get search results for the full ticket price.
  • Click on 'Find tickets' and select the train you want to take.
  • Select the type of ticket you want and click on 'add to itinerary'.
  • Fill in the information that is requested, select a seat and pay.
  • You'll receive the confirmation and e-ticket in your inbox.
