Solved

Reservations do not show in the app.

Good Afternoon,

I bought a pass a couple of months ago, put in my trips Paris → Munich, Munich → Cologne, Cologne → Paris.  The 1st part of the trip is Paris to Munich has a stop and train change in Mannheim and it needed a seat reservation. I booked it online on my computer, have a confirmation and its good to go, but It doesn’t have anything about Mannheim to Munich on the pass. Not sure what to do now? Since it didn’t need a reservation do, I just get on the connector train and sit anywhere?

Loaded up the app and it has my eurail pass but none of my booked seat reservation. Do these two systems not talk to each other?

It says I need my eurail pass and my tickets, any help would be greatly appreciated,

Marc

The reservations are separate from the app and your Eurail pass is your ticket. So, what you need is your pass and any reservations that you have.

You don't need a reservation for domestic day trains in Germany, but if you are travelling in a group and during high season it can be wise to make a reservation anyway. There is good information about the expected demand on each German train at bahn.com

Here is some useful information from the experienced travellers in the Community regarding both reservations and activation of pass and travel days.

Reservations

The advice from the experienced travellers in the community is to use other ways to make reservations than the Interrail/Eurail website.  You can look at the guide in the link:

https://community.eurail.com/train-connections-reservations-47/how-to-get-reservations-105

If you, after having looked at the guide, have questions about how to make specific reservation, please give your travel details (departure date, time and route) preferably in a new topic, and you will get advice.

Please note that Interrail/Eurail charges an extra fee of 2 EUR per person and ticket in addition to the fee for the seat reservation.

Activation of pass

During the activation process, when you choose the start day of the validity of the pass, the first day of the validity period is automatically made a travel day, even if you don't enter a journey, the advice is therefore not to activate the pass before the first travel day as you only can deactivate the pass before 00.00 on the day the validity starts. If your travel plans change in the last moment you will loose travel days if you have activated the pass in advance.

It can be wise to make a test and activate the pass with a start date well in the future and then deactivate the pass immediately, just to see that everything works.

 Activation of travel day

The advice from the experienced travellers in the community is also never to activate a travel day, that is connect a journey to your pass, until just before boarding the train, otherwise you might loose a travel day if your travel plans change in a late stage  You can't delete a travel day in the past. A travel day can only be deleted until 23.59 CET the day before the travel day.

Hi, the website and the app are two different systems.

Your Ticket is the app, where your Eurail Pass is. You have to add the trip to your pass, and so you can activate the pass to show a QR-Code for Ticket check.

The reservation is extra. In France show at the ticket check in the station the reservation. In other countries (except Spain or Eurostar) there are no ticket checks before boarding.

In Germany all trains are without reservations. Long distance trains have only optional reservation (except Nighttrains). There are small displays over the seat, so you can check if someone has reservated the seat. When the train is full you have to stand. On bahn.com you can check the prediction how full the trains can be and also buy a reservation for 4,50 EUR in 2nd class (less then via eurail.com)

Skip the extra expense-in DE these ICE trains are always late and you will miss the connection anyway-with some luck you may even make it into a train that should have left MH hours before. The RES as such is of course only valid in the exact train (all trains have nrs-also shown on the screens on platform) and not the other.

Thank you all so much, feeling much better about tomorrow.
