8 - 9 September: National Strike in ItalyTrain Disruptions

The staff of the FS Group and Trenor Group (Trenitalia, Trenitalia Tper and Trenord) have called for a national strike from 3:00 am on Sunday, 8 September to 2:00 am on Monday, 9 September 2024.The strike is expected to result in changes and/or cancellations for trains and Freccialink services.Since industrial agitation may affect travel even before the strike starts and after it ends, we recommend you check your planned journey on the up-to-date timetable on the Trenitalia website to know whether it is affected by the strike. 🎉 Gotthard Tunnel full re-opening soon

We are pleased to announce that the Gotthard Base Tunnel in Switzerland on the route between Zurich to Milan is expected to be fully operational again from the 2nd of September, according to SBB (Swiss Federal Railways). This comes over a year after the unfortunate freight train derailment that affected services. As a result, the daily EC Frankfurt-Milan service will resume on the 2nd September, improving direct connections between Germany and Italy.We look forward to the full restoration of this critical transport link. Read SBB announcement, here

⚠️ UK: LNER trains to/from London Kings Cross impacted between August 24–26Train Disruption

Your rail travel plans in the UK may be impacted between 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 24 and 8 a.m. on Monday, August 26, by planned essential engineering works taking place on the East Coast Main Line from London towards Leeds, York, Newcastle, and Edinburgh. LNER train services will be severely affected and there will be no direct LNER trains to or from London Kings Cross on 25th August. Please read the disruption notification on the National Rail website for more details and check your planned rail journey shortly before you travel on the National Rail timetable. You can also check the latest train updates on the LNER travel alerts website for up-to-date LNER train service information. ⚠️ Strike with occasional disruptions in Portugal from August 9 to 31Train Disruption

The Portuguese national railway company, CP, has announced strike action that may result in occasional disruptions on rail services across the country from August 9 to 31. CP estimates the disruptions to be more significant on August 15, so we recommend planning your rail travel in the country accordingly.  For more information about the strike, please the strike notification on the CP website and refer to the CP timetable for up-to-date train schedules shortly before departing for your planned train journeys.

⚠️ Construction works in Italy impact railway lines in AugustTrain Disruption

Several main railway lines in Italy will close throughout August for planned construction and maintenance works. The following railway lines will be disrupted for the coming weeks: Verona – Venice (31/07 – 20/08) Milan – Bologna (01/08 – 25/08) Florence – Rome (12/08 – 23/08) Milan – Domodossola (09/08 – 08/09) Please check Trenitalia's disruption page for more information (only in Italian).  Although the Eurail timetable is updated, we also recommend checking the Trenitalia timetable for the latest train schedules shortly before departing for your train journey. You can also search for real-time departure and arrival information by train or railway station using Trenitalia's information service.

Improved Pass benefits in SwitzerlandProduct update

We're excited to share an update to our Pass benefits. Starting June 1st, travellers in Switzerland no longer need to activate a travel day to use additional benefits or discounted products with the Pass. For an overview of all railway lines included in our Pass and Pass benefits in Switzerland, please visit this link. Tip: If a railway line or product is not part of our network but offers a discount, you will need an active pass, but not an activated travel day. However, if the railway line is included in our network, both an active pass and an activated travel day are required. For inspiration, hop over to our magazine and read the article "Chase Adventure: Switzerland by Train - Interlaken to the Jungfrau Region." We are currently experiencing an issue with our timetable in the Jungfrau region. European Sleeper extended to PragueProduct Update

 In June of last year, we welcomed the European Sleeper to our Pass network. Our in-house train expert, Hugo, had the honor of riding with them on its inaugural trip.   Fast forward almost a year later, and Moniek from our HR team had the pleasure of joining the European Sleeper on its very first extended route from Amsterdam to Prague!  Moniek, a newcomer to night trains, has now become an enthusiast, thanks to her experience on the European Sleeper. We sat down with her to ask a few questions about her adventure.  As a first-time night train traveler, what were the main differences you noticed compared to traveling by day? When you check in, there is a friendly staff member to greet you and help you find your cabin. There is also a really fun, buzzy feeling on the train.   As a woman, did you feel secure while traveling on the night train? I wasn’t sure how I would feel, but in the end, I did feel secure throughout the trip. I had a private compartment that comes with double locks. N

⚠️ Long term disruption Finland: Coastal Railway traffic 24 June - 28 JulyTrain Disruptions

Track work for the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency’s Espoo Rail Line project has been causing a five-week traffic interruption on the Coastal Railway west of Leppävaara starting from 24 June. During the interruption, they will replace all long-distance trains between Helsinki and Turku with buses. ⚠️ Construction works at Sofia Central, Bulgaria till Aug 2025Train Disruption

BDZ, the Bulgarian national railway company, has announced that construction works at Sofia Central will start from 7 May 2024 and are expected to last for 15 months until August 2025, impacting the flow of traffic through the station. You can expect the following changes in traffic movement at Sofia Central: For trains leaving/arriving at Sofia Sever, the BDZ have arranged special replacement trains which will do the transfer from Sofia Sever to Sofia Central. These trains will depart/arrive on platform 6, track 13. All trains coming from Northern Bulgaria will stop at Sofia Sever(North). Trams 1, 3, 7, and 27 will change their routes to accommodate traffic, with trams 27 and 3 continuing to Sofia Sever as their last stop. Bus line 413 will also continue to Sofia Sever. For more details about the construction works and the impact on Bulgarian public transport systems, please read the BDZ announcement (only in Bulgarian). ⚠️ Italy: Benevento to Ariano Irpino route suspended due to landslideTrain Disruption

Trenitalia, the Italian national rail carrier, has announced that traffic is suspended between Benevento and Ariano Irpino in Italy from 12 March due to a technical problem to the line caused by a landslide. High-speed and Intercity trains may experience route restrictions, cancellations, and bus substitutions on the affected routes with significant delays.  The main routes affected are:Milan – Lecce Rome – Bari Naples – Bari For the details on the routes disrupted and the bus substitutions offered, please read the Trentitalia traffic announcement (only in Italian). The carrier also recommends rescheduling your trip accordingly, if needed. Please check Trenitalia's timetable for up-to-date train times before departing for your planned journey.  The technicians are working on the site to allow the regular resumption of circulation and traffic is forecasted to be restored in 30 days or as soon as safety conditions are guaranteed.

⚠️ Sweden: SJ suspends couchette tickets for domestic sleepers until the 4th of March

Swedish carrier SJ has temporarily suspended the sale of sleeper and couchette tickets on its night trains due to ongoing wagon repairs. This interruption will remain in effect until March 4, impacting all of SJ's night trains. However, sleeper trains will continue to operate, with only seat reservations available for booking during this period.

Our Top 10 Improvements to This Year's December Timetable Release

It’s a special time of year! Twice annually, the European Railway Carriers release an updated timetable, making the second Sunday of December feel a little like New Year’s for train travellers. This release includes new routes, connections, services, and more. We have been eagerly anticipating how this timetable update will top previous releases. Well, the time has come, and we are thrilled to share the 10 most impactful improvements! New night trains: Starting from Brussels or Paris to BerlinThe latest additions to the ÖBB Nightjet routes will connect Brussels and Paris to Berlin. The direct night train service between Berlin and Paris, previously known as City Night Line, last operated in 2014.
