Another French region will try to manage their inability to provide enough capacity by making reservations mandatory:2 TER lines in Grand Est will have mandatory reservations from 1 July:https://www.francebleu.fr/infos/economie-social/a-partir-de-cet-ete-la-reservation-sera-obligatoire-dans-les-ter-vallee-de-la-marne-6533098Paris - Troyes - Belfort - Mulhouse Paris - Épernay - St. Dizier/Bar-le-Duc (possibly all the way from/to Strasbourg for the few trains that do that)The reservations are supposed to be free of charge and available from 1 March. No idea however, how or where they can then be booked.
You can now book pass reservations on www.raileurope.com. You have to add a rail pass, which will then be applied to all passengers in the group, and at check-out, you need to supply a pass number.I did a test for Italy (Frecciarossa Milan-Rome) and there don't seem to be any extra booking fees. And you can select a seat for €2 extra, like on the Trenitalia website.No luck for Spain yet. It will be interesting to see if it can book anything that can't be booked online elsewhere.
On the Southeastern website, it seems quite clear that you need to buy a supplement for their high speed trains:You can buy a supplement and upgrade to high speed services if you have:A valid ticket or Season Ticket for any Southeastern service into LondonHowever, this isn't mentioned in the rail planner app, the seat reservations page, the country page or the supplements page.Am I correct in thinking that this information is missing in all these places? Or is there somehow an exception for pass holders that isn't mentioned on Southeastern website?
This looks very wrong:@Camilo. @Mukhammad From a certain date, (some?) Thalys trains seem to be disguised as intercity. If this is not fixed soon, then there are going to be a lot of disappointed travellers.The information in the app looks (still?) OK.
It looks like Trenitalia have increased the price of Frecce reservations from €10 to €13. ÖBB now mention €13 for most Frecce, although some (still?) appear for €10.Italiarail still show €10, but if you then you continue to book, it will change to €13. Seat61 has also changed the price to €13 on most of the pages, so I guess it has really changed.Intercity reservations in Italy seem to remain at €3.EC reservations from/to Switzerland seem to remain at €11/€13.
Thalys reservations became even more expensive on 31 January, especially in 1st class.Prices in €, previously => now (2nd/1st class):Belgium-Germany: 25 => 27/32Belgium-Netherlands: 20 => 22/27Belgium-France: 25 => 27/32Germany-France: 30 => 32/37Netherlands-France: 30 => 32/37See the price lists in Dutch, French and English.
For journeys from 11 December, Dutch and Belgian railways can book the TGVs between Paris and Barcelona again. That includes Interrail/Eurail reservations, which can be booked by phone or at one of their international ticket offices.Deutsche Bahn can no longer book pass reservations for these trains for journeys from from 11 December.I have updated the post about booking these trains. Since last week, Belgian railways can also book reservations for French domestic night trains again. Again, pass reservations can be booked by phone or at one of their international ticket offices.All reservations booked via Dutch or Belgian railways can be sent via email.
I've been travelling quite a lot over the past few months, getting good value out of my 3-month continuous pass :)Finally I've now also caught up with the posts in the Interrail community, as some of you might have noticed. Additionally, I've been taking notes about things in the app that are not quite right or misleading and that's what this post is about. Some of the notes are already older, from a previous trip with a mobile flexi pass; I could not re-check all of them (I don't have a valid Interrail at this time) and they may have been fixed in the mean time.So here goes, in no particular order...The app said an internet connection is needed to activate a day on a flexi pass ("Add to pass" for the first journey of the day), although the phone had been online only half a day earlier. The mobile pass FAQ does not mention any other requirement than being online at least once every 3 days. If for certain actions an internet connection is needed, then please add that to the FAQ. The weekend trains are returning finally, starting on 1 July:https://twitter.com/larsvr06/status/1532002649285046272
On the 2022 Interrail map (found on this page), some lines around Barcelona run by FGC are shown as "Railways with discount”. It refers to the pass benefits section in the rail planner app for details, but it has no mention of these rail services. I also checked the benefits portal but nothing there either (interestingly, the website lists 26 benefits for Spain, the app 25).The FGC website does not mention Interrail or Eurail anywhere.So is this still accurate? I have also asked FGC via their Facebook page.
When buying an Interrail pass on interrail.eu, "Plus" (23 EUR extra) is automatically added on checkout. If you don't want that, you first have to notice it and then unselect it. I'm not sure if it's allowed to add optional extras automatically but regardless of that: it is undesired. Please change that. If you click on "Continue shopping" during checkout and then return to the checkout later, then "Plus" is added back again! This is even less desirable, since you should be able to trust that your order is not changed after you've saved it.Any feedback from Eurail (@Nanja :) appreciated.
For mobile passes, a travel runs from 0:00 until 23:59 CET, as is mentioned on this page and this page. However, what happens during daylight savings time? If we take the text on these pages literally, then during daylight savings time, a travel day also runs from 0:00 until 23:59 CET, which is 1:00 until 0:59 CEST.I suspect that during daylight savings time, a travel day runs from 0:00 until 23:59 CEST. If that is indeed the case, then I think it's a good idea to state that explicitly on the pages mentioned.
