Get ready to travel

When I try to plan a journey on the Railplanner app from my home station of Lancaster (UK) to the UK border at Harwich International, using one of the two days of “domestic” availability allowed, I am told that a €6 “reservation fee” is payable on the Lancaster to London leg of the journey.  As there is not usually any charge for reservations in the UK why is this?  And what happens if I just get on the train without one?

Me and my partner bought two Interrail Global Passes back this summer. We started travelling early september 2022. The day before departure a train strike was announced which kept us from making our outbound trip using the Eurostar from Rotterdam to London. We arranged ferry tickets ourselves (not using the Interrail).Since then we’ve been unable to have our Eurostar supplement (the extra you have to pay while booking the Eurostar via Interrail) refunded. In total this amounts to €75,42.We’ve been unable to have it refunded. We used the form on the website asking for a refund but to no avail. There is no phone line to call to or there is no e-mailadres for complaints. I am resorting to this forum to get my money back for a train strike I should be compensated for. My request: Can you please refund €75,42? If you need further detail, please let me know. Regards, Mieke

Hello,i´ve noticed , when activating my pass:  wrong country of residence!To be Finland but now it’s  Greece ? I’m wondering , if Is there any problem any way to travel with this pass ? I’m not planning to travel now to Greece.Rgds Jukka  

I’m looking to book a trip with another adult and child. We’d like to see several cities (Barcelona, Paris, Milan, Rome, Athens, etc) but not positive how the passes work. How do we get tickets to travel but able to stay in the cities for a couple nights between traveling?

Hello everybody I had a question a few weeks ago about a refund for the Eurostar due to an technical error. I booked 6 seat reservations instead of 2 for the Eurostar, since the system didn’t let my payment through. I checked what to do on the interrail platform and then it went through 3 times.  i had to go back to London anyways, so I took some time if my day and went to the Eurostar information and ask for a refund. That lady wanted to give it to me immediately, but couldn’t since it was booked though interrail. A few days later I got an email from interrail saying they can’t refund anything from Eurostar. but I knew from that lady, that there was hope for a refund.  Since money is really tied right now I kept begging that interrail person to somehow give me a refund. He then told me his Seniors had to decide about it. I asked about an update on Friday and they just told me they will decide at the beginning of next week. I messaged them aga

I am traveling through my country of residence more often than once for inbound and once for outbound. Therefore, I need to buy additional ticket for the part of my travels within the country of residence. However, I do not know, what this exactly means.Imagine I am traveling from Berlin to Prague and Czechia is the country of residence. The last stop of an EC I am taking on German side is Bad Schandau, the first stop on the Czech one is Děčín. Can I buy a ticket from Schoena (border) to Prague or do I have to buy one from Bad Schandau to Prague? Any advice (ideally with a reference where to find the info) welcome!

I tried booking seat reservations from Paris to Amsterdam but it isn't working it keeps popping up with  Prices unavailable No price results were found. Pass holder reservations may be sold out for this connection, but there are other ways to check for available seats—more info below our timetable But this has been the same for all trains i have searched. doesn’t matter the country, filters, trains or times none are letting me book any seat reservations. 

Always wondered that about the accounting of Interrail. As I understand, Interrail has to pay a discounted price per journey for every journey a customer takes. This makes me wonder, if someone is taking too many journey, can Interrail lose money on them?

Can I use the Global Pass from Paris to Auvers sur Oise? And from Strasbourg to Colmar?And what about the train from Schiphol Airport to Amsterdam Central Station?Many thanks for your help!

We have global flexi passes. 4 days in 1 month. We will use 2 days to get to our destination and 1 day to get home. These are planned and saved in My Trip and added to My Pass (mobile) but not activated. We would like to use the remaining day for a trip out from our destination. We know the route of the journey but have not chosen the day. FAQ says Can I switch or cancel a travel day?You can cancel your travel day any time before the start of that day (00:00 CET). Go to My Pass, choose the travel day you want to cancel and tap ‘Cancel travel day’.But does not say how to change the travel day.

Hey, ich wollt eigentlich zwischen Mai und Juni mit einem normalen Interrail Pass eine Italienreise machen und Ende Juni eine Osteuropareise mit meinem DiscoverEU Pass. Leider habe ich am 31. Mai einen Pflichttermin in meiner Heimatstadt, weswegen ich vom 19-30. Mai den ersten und vom 2. Juni bis 9. Juni den zweiten Teil meiner Italienreise machen will, das heißt ich bräuchte insgesamt 4 Tage für An- und Abreise. Da die regulären Zugtickets nach Osteuropa deutlich günstiger als die nach Italien sind, würde ich gerne meinen An- und Abreisetag vom DiscoverEU Pass für den zweiten Teil meiner Italienreise verwenden. Ist das möglich? Kann ich gleichzeitig einen DiscoverEU und einen Interrailpass in Betrieb haben? Danke!

Hi,I’ve been planning a route which includes a train from Venice to Nice however, I’m not sure if it’s possible. I haven’t been able to find great options so far and have figured I’d have to get a train from Venice to Milan first but haven’t been able to figure anything out past that point. I would have a interrail global pass and would be travelling in June, any help would be much appreciated and any additional info needed please let me know.Thank you :)

Hi everyone !! Does someone know if it is compulsory to use our outbound/inbound journey from/to our country of residence or can we use them as a classic travel day to go in another country that isn't our country of residence ?For example, I won the 7 days within 1 month pass and I live in france. So I used an outbound journey to start my trip. I used 5 classic travel days + 1 outbound (at the beginning) but i don't want to go back in France yet. Is it possible for me to use the last travel day not as an inbound journey to France but as a classic travel day to go in another country ? Thank you and have a nice day :))Jules 

Hi,I’ve broken my phone yesterday evening and I’m travelling today, at 11h26. I’ve contacted the Customer Support by filling up their form yesterday evening when it happened but I haven’t had an answer yet. Do you know if it usually takes time ? Is there another way I can disconnect my pass from my broken device ?Update : they answered 15mn after this message. So thanks to the Eurail / Interrail team for their quick reaction !

I am trying to book Paris to Luxembourg on Sunday 28-May. All the times naturally say reservation required but when I click on them they all turn red and say “seat reservation unavailable” with the blip saying that seats may be sold out. I have checked every train that connects from Saarbruecken to Luxembourg across numerous days of the week and different months and they all say “seat reservation unavailable”. Other connecting trains are giving me the same issue. So I can get out of Paris but the final train to Luxembourg always gives the red unavailable box. Is it really this challenging to get to Luxembourg by train as I haven’t had issues with any of my other routes. Starting to think we might just remove Luxembourg from our trip.

Dear all!It is unfortunate that there are extra costs for purchasing reservations generally - but that by itself is at least somewhat understandable. I honestly struggle though to understand why I am supposed to pay 2€ extra for each reservation I make through the internal portal. Whenever possible I change to the website of the national carrier: But that doesn't always even work, i.e. with Trenitalia or SNCF.Would someone here know why Interrail wants all of us to pay 2€ extra for every reservation made through their portal?

Hi allThis is our first Overseas Trip in June - July 2023 and I’m trying really hard to navigate the Eurail and know whether we are better with a pass or individual trips and which ones need to be booked in advance.We have a couple of days in London Then will be on the train from Edinburgh to ParisThen train Paris to ZurichThen train Zurich to ComoThen train Como to FlorenceThen train Florence to Rome. Any help and guidance would be very much appreciated.Thank you!

Hallo, ich habe eine Frage zu den Fahrten im Heimatland:In meiner groben Planung würde ich meine Reise in Bielefeld starten und nach Zürich fahren, müsste jedoch in Köln und Frankfurt umsteigen, bevor ich in der Schweiz ankomme.Zum Ende der Reise würde ich von Prag aus nach Bielefeld aufbrechen, was aber einen Umstieg in Berlin zur Folge hätte.Ist dies soweit möglich? Ich wäre ja nur an zwei Reisetagen in meinem Heimatland Deutschland unterwegs, aus den Erklärungen auf der Homepage werde ich aber nicht ganz schlau, ob Umstiege auf dem “Hinweg” und “Rückweg” erlaubt sind. Danke und L.G.Nico

Hello, I am trying to add my interrail pass on the gsm application. And an error message appears "update the app to continue". I reinstalled the application 3 times, checked if there were any new updates and I found that the last update had been installed. especially since my phone is less than a month old, so there is no problem on this side. I’m travelling late at night, planning to arrive either shortly before or after 12 a.m. in the night.InterRail regulations claim: “If the Pass holder makes an overnight trip pastmidnight and boards a second train after midnight, it is necessary to use two traveldays.“But what if the trains are getting delayed, so I won’t make it in time?This is a question particularly important for the last day of my trip, when all pass rides have been spent.Will I always have to buy an “extra” ride day for my pass, just in case trains are getting delayed? Or is there a regulation in place, relaxing time constaints when trains are getting delayed?

I am planning a 10 day trip to Europe and im covering Switzerland, France and Netherlands. I want to know if the Eurail pass will be valid for all local travel in all these countries as well?

Hi, I’m planning a trip, I have some doubt about inbound/outbound trips and how handle at the best the trip days.Question 1. :  I want to go from Rome to Munich within a night trip, but I need to change a train in residence country before midnight, it is still considered a outbound trip / one day pass? Question 2: inbound trip, from Wien to Rome, night trip from Wien to a city, can I stop 6hrs and then take another train to Rome?eThanks for your answers
