Book seat reservations on select Spanish trains via our reservations system 🇪🇸Product Update

We are excited to announce that you can now book seat reservations for high-speed trains in Spain via our reservations service! After a lot of hard work, we are proud to bring you this big improvement. 👏🏻 You can now book AVE, Euromed, and Alvia trains through our reservations system and receive an e-ticket. We hope this makes travel planning easier and more convenient for you.  Stay tuned because we will be continuing to add more trains to our reservations service soon. Happy travels!

⚠️ Train derailment in Swiss Gotthard tunnel on route Zurich – MilanTrain disruptions

The Swiss National Railways has announced that a freight train derailment on 10th August in the Gotthard Base Tunnel located on the route between Zurich to Milan has caused severe track damage. SBB expects that the tunnel will only be available for passenger train travel from the beginning of 2024.  As a result, direct international trains will now take the scenic route across the mountains instead of the tunnel, resulting in 1 hour longer travel times. For this reason, SBB recommends catching a 1-hour earlier train from Zurich so as to not miss any further connecting trains. The following routes are the direct international Eurocity routes:Eurocity Zurich – Lugano – Milan/Verona/Venice/Genova Eurocity Basel – Luzern – Lugano – MilanFor all other international and domestic connections, there are hourly direct trains from Zurich to Chiasso taking the scenic route instead of the tunnel. Pass holders can now book seat reservations in Norway online!Product Update

We've got some great news for you: booking seat reservations in Norway just got a whole lot easier! Thanks to Entur's updated reservation system, Eurail/Interrail Pass holders can now book seat reservations online.🎉So if you're planning a trip to Norway and want to book your seat reservations, you're in luck! The process is now much simpler than before. Just follow the instructions provided here and you'll be good to go!

How to book your seat reservationsSeat Reservations

For some routes, an additional seat reservation is required. Seat reservations are not included in your Eurail or Interrail Pass, but for a fee they guarantee you a comfy seat on busy routes across Europe. On most high-speed trains and all night trains, seat reservations are mandatory.  For a fun set of instructions, check out our Instagram highlight, here.  You can book most of your reservations through our Reservation Service. Visit this page for detailed and up to date information on how to book seat reservations per country.  Another option is to book seat reservations directly with the rail carrier. Our Top 10 Improvements to This Year's December Timetable Release

It’s a special time of year! Twice annually, the European Railway Carriers release an updated timetable, making the second Sunday of December feel a little like New Year’s for train travellers. This release includes new routes, connections, services, and more. We have been eagerly anticipating how this timetable update will top previous releases. Well, the time has come, and we are thrilled to share the 10 most impactful improvements! New night trains: Starting from Brussels or Paris to BerlinThe latest additions to the ÖBB Nightjet routes will connect Brussels and Paris to Berlin. The direct night train service between Berlin and Paris, previously known as City Night Line, last operated in 2014. Travellers missed this night route, and we are pleased that passengers can travel it again three times per week.The Brussels to Berlin route runs six days per week, with both European Sleeper and the Nightjet running three times each on different days. How to find schedules: Rail Planner.Reser

⚠️ Narvik, Norway to Abisko, Sweden rail route disruptedTrain Disruption

The national railway carrier of Norway, VY, has announced that the rail route between Narvik in Norway and Abisko in Sweden is disrupted due to a previous derailment in Vassijaure in Sweden since December 2023. The Swedish Transport Administration's latest forecast is that the track will not open for passenger traffic between Björnfjell – Björkliden at least until June. For details about replacement buses on the full route between Narvik – Björnfjell – Björkliden – Abisko and further, please read the VY disruption announcement. We recommend checking our timetable to plan your train journeys accordingly.

Are you ready for an overnight train journey?Article

Hugo, our Eurail/Interrail Product Specialist, seasoned traveler and self-labeled train nerd, had the opportunity to ride the European Sleeper on their inaugural trip in June. We sat down with him to get all the details about the train and the route. What was the first thing that left an impression on you?It is a classic train. The sleeper cars were built in the 50’s, and most of them have a window you can open. Train lovers will definitely love this feature. The views were excellent. These old trains are rare so this is a unique train to travel on. By taking the European Sleeper, you can see Western and Eastern Europe on the same trip!  How were the staff onboard?Super friendly and professional! They welcomed passengers on board and explained how everything worked. They were more like hosts than train staff, which was great for newbies. Did they serve food and drinks?Yes, offerings included soft drinks, a weizen, and croissants for breakfast. Eurail welcomes the European Sleeper to our rail network 💤🚂

Imagine boarding in Brussels and waking up in Berlin with a whole day of exploration in front of you. From July 1st as a Pass holder you can include the latest night train on your Eurail/Interrail rail adventure by booking a seat reservation directly via the European Sleeper website. The train runs between Brussels and Berlin with 8 stops along the way including Antwerp, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, and Deventer.   By including a journey with the European Sleeper in your itinerary, you can cover large distances, like Edinburgh to Berlin for example, and only use one of the travel days included in your Pass.   Who is this new train on the tracks?  European Sleeper is a new Dutch-Belgian rail cooperative organisation focusing on sleeper trains. At the end of May 2021, European Sleeper raised €500,000 in starting capital within three months by selling shares to over 350 small investors from various countries in Europe and beyond. ⚠️ Paris - Turin - Milan line closure due to landslideTrain disruptions

The French national railways has announced that rail traffic between Modane and St-Michel-Valloire will be disrupted for the time being due to a landslide that was reported in the French Alps on 27th August. This would impact train journeys on the route between Paris – Turin – Milan for the next several months. Read more about it on the SNCF website.From 10th January, TGV trains will operate between Paris to Milan with a replacement bus from St Jean de Maurienne to Oulx after which passengers can continue their journey to Milan by train. The travel schedule including the replacement bus service with a slightly longer travel time will be updated on the Eurail Timetable and can also be found on the SNCF timetable. Your reservations will be valid for the whole route, including the replacement bus service. ⚠️ Strikes in UK from 6–11 MayTrain Disruptions

The British national locomotive driver's union ASLEF has announced a nationwide rail strike from 6–11 May that may impact rail services across the UK. As different train operators are striking on different dates, please have a look at the strike announcement on the National Rail Website for detailed information. In addition, the train operators will have an overtime ban from 6–11 May that may result in changes to train schedules. We recommend checking the National Rail timetable shortly before departing for your planned rail journey for up-to-date train times. Delay compensation: Eurail travelers with an activated day for any of the affected dates can request compensation here.

⚠️ Several railway lines disrupted in the AlpsTrain Disruptions

The French national railways has announced that rail traffic between Modane and St-Michel-Valloire will be disrupted for the coming weeks due to a landslide that was reported in the French Alps on 27th August. This would impact train journeys on the route between Paris – Turin – Milan. Read more about it on the SNCF website. If you were planning to travel on the impacted route, we recommend using an alternative route via Zurich. Please note that the route from Paris – Zurich – Milan is currently facing a delay due to the closure of the Gotthard Tunnel in Switzerland (check post below for more information). Please make sure to check the SBB timetable shortly before departure of your planned journeys for up-to-date information. Additionally, due to weather conditions, multiple railway lines in the Alps are currently disrupted in Austria, Switzerland, and Italy.
