⚠️ Sweden: SJ suspends couchette tickets for domestic sleepers until the 4th of March

Swedish carrier SJ has temporarily suspended the sale of sleeper and couchette tickets on its night trains due to ongoing wagon repairs. This interruption will remain in effect until March 4, impacting all of SJ's night trains. However, sleeper trains will continue to operate, with only seat reservations available for booking during this period.

Our Top 10 Improvements to This Year's December Timetable Release

It’s a special time of year! Twice annually, the European Railway Carriers release an updated timetable, making the second Sunday of December feel a little like New Year’s for train travellers. This release includes new routes, connections, services, and more. We have been eagerly anticipating how this timetable update will top previous releases. Well, the time has come, and we are thrilled to share the 10 most impactful improvements! New night trains: Starting from Brussels or Paris to BerlinThe latest additions to the ÖBB Nightjet routes will connect Brussels and Paris to Berlin. The direct night train service between Berlin and Paris, previously known as City Night Line, last operated in 2014. ⚠️ Paris - Turin - Milan line closure due to landslideTrain disruptions

The French national railways has announced that rail traffic between Modane and St-Michel-Valloire will be disrupted for the time being due to a landslide that was reported in the French Alps on 27th August. This would impact train journeys on the route between Paris – Turin – Milan for the next several months. Read more about it on the SNCF website.From 10th January, TGV trains will operate between Paris to Milan with a replacement bus from St Jean de Maurienne to Oulx after which passengers can continue their journey to Milan by train. The travel schedule including the replacement bus service with a slightly longer travel time will be updated on the Eurail Timetable and can also be found on the SNCF timetable. Your reservations will be valid for the whole route, including the replacement bus service. For more information, see this SNCF document.If you're planning to travel on the impacted route before 10th January, we recommend using an alternative route via Zurich. Please note that

⚠️ Athens-Thessaloniki rail services in Greece will be unavailable for the foreseeable futureTrain disruptions

Storm Daniel caused devastating floods in parts of Greece, especially in the Thessaly region. The railway line between Athens-Larissa-Thessaloniki is severely damaged, and it will take a long time before trains can operate again.  Roads will be repaired faster; however, no replacement buses are possible for the Athens-Larissa-Thessaloniki rail service. Train service on the Larissa-Thessaloniki part of the line may resume before full service (Athens-Thessaloniki) is reinstated. For the most up-to-date information, please check https://www.hellenictrain.gr/en/announcements and HELLENIC TRAIN ticketing for more details about journeys in Greece.

⚠️ Several railway lines disrupted in the AlpsTrain Disruptions

The French national railways has announced that rail traffic between Modane and St-Michel-Valloire will be disrupted for the coming weeks due to a landslide that was reported in the French Alps on 27th August. This would impact train journeys on the route between Paris – Turin – Milan. Read more about it on the SNCF website. If you were planning to travel on the impacted route, we recommend using an alternative route via Zurich. Please note that the route from Paris – Zurich – Milan is currently facing a delay due to the closure of the Gotthard Tunnel in Switzerland (check post below for more information). Please make sure to check the SBB timetable shortly before departure of your planned journeys for up-to-date information. Additionally, due to weather conditions, multiple railway lines in the Alps are currently disrupted in Austria, Switzerland, and Italy. ⚠️ Train derailment in Swiss Gotthard tunnel on route Zurich – MilanTrain disruptions

The Swiss National Railways has announced that a freight train derailment on 10th August in the Gotthard Base Tunnel located on the route between Zurich to Milan has caused severe track damage. SBB expects that the tunnel will only be available for passenger train travel from the beginning of 2024.  As a result, direct international trains will now take the scenic route across the mountains instead of the tunnel, resulting in 1 hour longer travel times. For this reason, SBB recommends catching a 1-hour earlier train from Zurich so as to not miss any further connecting trains. The following routes are the direct international Eurocity routes:Eurocity Zurich – Lugano – Milan/Verona/Venice/Genova Eurocity Basel – Luzern – Lugano – MilanFor all other international and domestic connections, there are hourly direct trains from Zurich to Chiasso taking the scenic route instead of the tunnel. Back on the continent and off to surf…- part 2Blog

 When you arrive in Paris you spill out straight in to the busy centre of Parisian life, one of the amazing things of course of European train travel, is the immediate access to the centre of its cities. In my case the surf trip out to Brittany involved departing from Gare Montparnasse. Paris is not easy in a wheelchair, that’s my warning. Metro and RER are not accessible at all, so don’t try. You have two options one is to catch the bus, there are buses opposite the station which can take you to all the other major stations of Paris in about one hour. Put your hand out for the driver and ask for ‘la ramp’ which on Paris buses descends from the back door. Remember once the driver has shut the main doors, they reopen them again to engage the ramp, he is not driving off as it first seems! The other option is G7 taxis booked in advance and cost about €50 to get to the other main stations of Paris stations. They are fully equipped and usually meet you at the head of the train, www.g7.fr  A

Eurail welcomes the European Sleeper to our rail network 💤🚂

Imagine boarding in Brussels and waking up in Berlin with a whole day of exploration in front of you. From July 1st as a Pass holder you can include the latest night train on your Eurail/Interrail rail adventure by booking a seat reservation directly via the European Sleeper website. The train runs between Brussels and Berlin with 8 stops along the way including Antwerp, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, and Deventer.   By including a journey with the European Sleeper in your itinerary, you can cover large distances, like Edinburgh to Berlin for example, and only use one of the travel days included in your Pass.   Who is this new train on the tracks?  European Sleeper is a new Dutch-Belgian rail cooperative organisation focusing on sleeper trains. At the end of May 2021, European Sleeper raised €500,000 in starting capital within three months by selling shares to over 350 small investors from various countries in Europe and beyond. Back to the continent at last for an Adaptive surf contest, part 1

 Very excited to be finally going back on the Eurostar over to the continent after a few years since the pandemic had blocked what was for me a regular thing,  This time as I put a surfboard under my arm it was with some nerves as I began preparing the wheelchair. As brief overview, with my physical disability I have tried to rediscover the sports I enjoyed before the onset of my disease, this have been both snow and sea related in the form of skiing and surfing.  18 months ago I got back in the water and slowly and surely found a way to get across the waves in the form of a knee surfer style. By chance I bumped into an adaptive England team coach in the water who told me there is a World Series of adaptive surfing competitions out there. So fast forward to 3 weeks ago and after competing in my first international competition in England, this was my second chance to ride some World Series competition waves comes around in Perros-Guric, Brittany, far North-west France. TGV Brussel-Disney/CDG bookable via b-europe

HeyI don't know if this is new, but I think it is. Via b-europe (Thalys/Eurostar reservation page) online it is possible to book reservations for TGVs to/from Brussel for rides to Marne-la-Vallée/Chessy (Disneyland) and Brussel to Aéroport Charles de Gaulle TGV. They ask 20€ in second class and 30€ in 1st class.Via travel.b-europe.com (for trains within france) it is not possible.
