Travelling by train

In short: Eurail is far more expensive than other forms of travel through both France and Spain due to the additional fees. It is also extremely inconsistent. I know of multiple friends, and myself, who have been completely screwed by last minute cancellations in France. It will be the worst part of your trip and the most expensive by far. Organize your own travel through these countries.In detail:Eurail is fine through Germany, Switzerland, and Belgium.I would recommend using it for those countries.In France and Spain (Spain actually being where I live) it absolutely sucks. The additionally fees to travel through France, on the very few trains that are actually available to eurail customers, can nearly double the price of the trip. We are inter-railing in July as a family of four (two teenagers). We are doing some popular long-ish routes eg Brussels to Munich via Frankfurt, and Salzburg to Budapest. My question is whether the trains tend to be heaving at this time of year and how likely we are to end up standing/ sitting on the floor? If the latter, can trains safely be booked a few days in advance or should we be doing it weeks in advance? 

Does a First Class pass allow travel in Avanti First or just Standard Premium in the UK? And are there hot meals served? Thank you

The March 28 paris-Lourdes train booked using Eurail pass was canaeled due to a strike and replaced by the next day'train at the impormationdesk at the Montparnas station. But there was no seats on the replacement train. My husband and I paid 44€ for the seat reservation.I'd like to request a refund on this deposit.

Hello, we are from Australia  and hoping to book our transit from Rennes to Colmar, France. There is a 50min transfer time in Paris and need to get from Gare Montparnasse to Gare de Lyon, to reconnect out travel onwards. Does anyone know know if this is easily possible in that timeframe? Hello everyone!!How can I present my mobile pass during the visa application? Is there a paper for it? Some kinda proof?

I will be traveling using 7 day interrail global flexi pass starting my journey on 24th April.I'm planning to take a night jet train from Rome to Munich(my country of Residence) on 4th May (using the 7th travel day).The train reaches Munich on 5th May morning 9am.I do not want to use Interrail pass for my further journey.My question here if I can complete my night journey (Night jet) by just consuming 1 travel day (7th travel day as inbound journey)?Or do I need consume 2 travel days (6th travel day for 4th May + 7th travel day for inbound journey )? Note : My night journey from Rome -> Munich will be a direct train. Hello all! This summer I want to go to Chamonix with the train from Brussels. Does someone have experience if it would be best for me to buy an interrail global 4 day pass + then have train reservation costs. Or just buy the train ticket without interrail, since I am not planning to visit any other destination and would only travel 2 days of the 4. At first glance I see that a train ticket one way costs abot 150 euros, but that is just an estimation I saw since the dates are not published already for the end of June. I’m flying into Amsterdam in May for the Interzum 2023 convention. in Cologne  I was told to catch the train to Cologne from the airport.  I’m staying at the Nikii City Hotel at Lickstrabe72, Leverkusen, NRW 51373 Germany.  Please provide directions.  Making them as clear as possible would be a big help.

In another thread I shared how I ended up paying 362 euros for an Excelsior Class ticket from Sicily to Rome. Having done so, my wife and I were expecting relatively high comfort. We had travelled in a “deluxe” compartment on the way down but this was supposed to be one notch better, and we’d even be served prosecco when boarding!Instead this turned out to be the worst night train experience I have ever had. The compartment was terribly hot, there was no a/c (none that was functioning anyhow) and there was no way to regulate the temperature inside the compartment. We had the same experience on the way down and the attendant that time managed to turn the temp down a little bit (presumably for the whole car). The attendant this time fidgeted a little bit with the volume knob (!) inside the cabin and then retorted to say that there was nothing he could do. Hi! Just started organising our trip and were looking into night trains from Florence-Vienna. However, there appears to be no availability at all throughout July and August. Are these all booked out or do the trains simply not run at this time?Thanks for any help! 

Hello,The interrail rules are saying that I only have to use one in- or outbound journey when I travel by night train. The date of departure is the evening when the night train departs. Does the in- or outbound journey still counts when I take, after the night train, other trains during the day of arrival by night train? For example: I leave on Saturday evening and arrive on Sunday morning by night train. On Sunday I travel further with other trains. Does those other trains still count as the inbound journey? Thank you for answering!Kristoff 

Hello,Ok got the 2 months global pass last year and Need to use it before this June ..we are traveling with kids for a first time in Italian Night train to Palermo .. (CABINA COMFORT PROMISCUO)  Could you please share your experience with this .. I hope it is clean as they charge 172 for 4 persons .. 1) Is it a private or shared one ?  Can we lock this in the night ?is it safer as my Italian friends were looking at me strangely when Said train trip to Palermo ..But, I booked the ticket and wanna experience  if you have anything to share that a family needs to take care in particular…thanks for your inputs  

Buenas,Estoy organizando un viaje con mi novio, en principio queremos coger el pase de 7 dias gastando uno en la ida y otro en la vuelta.El viaje de ida queremos hacer Madrid-Berlin, el problema es que el ultimo tren que deberiamos de coger es a las 23:30 antes de llegar a Berlin.Mi pregunta es la siguiente, si se pasa de día por algún retraso de los anteriores trenes, ¿Nos contaría como otro pase diferente?Espero haber sido clara, sino, podéis preguntar sin problema :)

Travelling from Rome to Polignano a Mare in September 2023. Will leave from Termini Station inRome. Will probably get a rail pass as going several other places. Is there a direct train or do we need to transfer somewhere?  Any thoughts on how to get there is appreciated. 

Hi! Im travelling with a buddy to London soon. We were thinking of visiting italy as our last destination. Where should we go in between?  planning to leave london on the 7th of March and back to our country on the 20th of march.  is there any advice as where we could save some money as well? Not yet activated our passes.Have seats reserved for travel to Amsterdam on 7th March. Now need to change to May.Eurostar say as booked through 3rd party (Eurail) I have to get them to change date. Eurail just send me link back to E* site where they show as £20 per seat to change date on same time train and £140 for later train. I feel I'm just on a loop Help!Thanks

8 days in Italy visiting Venice & major cities btwn there & Naples-Looks like 8 day pass would be perfect. 1.  Does one simply show pass upon request aboard train or scan somewhere prior to each boarding? 2. Is reservation fee for each leg of trip or round trip?  Example: Bologna to Pisa back to Bologna3. Any suggestions for questions I wouldn't know to ask about using Eurail pass?  4. Best/easiest/cheapest site to book trips?
